Sprayed base/clear over cured epoxy

As "I" understand it,
Epoxy,at the end of the recoat time of 7 days, depending on conditions, is Cured, meaning virtually an impenetrable smooth surface. Why we do this.
Chemical Bond is lost. You sand It in order to create a Mechanical Bond with the next product.
This "scratch" has to be course enough for the Mechanical Bond to "hold on" the next Product. This WILL determine whatever happens Next.
Good,Bad,or Ugly
Sealer is just what the name Implies,
Sealer......

I occasionally spray base without activator, say if I am painting doors on an older commuter car. But if I was painting the bumper on that same car, I would use activator even though it's got one wheel in the junkyard. But anything nice has to get activated base all over.

Does PPG or Dupont(Axalta) even have an activator for their basecoat? I've never heard of an activator for either one. Only the basecoat reducer. Which basecoat has an activator option or requirement?

There is no requirement for an activator In base coat. It just provides less problems if you have to go back into your paint later. Say you go thru the clear sanding and have to respray more base to fix. There is less chance of wrinkling occuring because the base has been activated. One cap full of any clear activator per mixed quart of base will work. For smaller amounts I just guess. The amount doesn't really matter. What's important is that it has some in it. Just don't over do. There was a company years ago that offered a specific activator for base but I don't remember which one. I've always used just the clear coat activator when I have used it .

Deltron DBC, Sherwin 7000, Standox, and Nason all have options for activator:

I have experience with a few others, but you get the idea. DBC activator is DX57, but most people just use clear activator.

Nason had 483 activators but different suffixes depending on product and I wondered if there was really any difference with them except maybe the clear temps. -87 2K, -78 mid temp clear, etc.

All of the majors have an activator for their base.
If a shop wants to get certified for the warranty program it says in every warranty book activator must be used or have no coverage.
Im hearing the cost of 80 to 120 for the cost of the activators.

Got it..Thanks for your input on this. Appreciate it. When I begin the paint and clear process I will be taking your advice.
It will be this coming spring
