  • Ordered some SPI-2010 black base coat. There is a warning label on the lid that reads "DO NOT USE UNDER FLATTENED CLEAR UNLESS YOU TEST FIRST!!!".
Why the warning? What is the potential problem? Or is it the warning just for non SPI clears? I don't want to call you on the weekend unless I have to.
I have done this quite a few times with the Euro clear, but not with this base.
    Thanks

I think you texted me this weekend but reason for warning is anytime you use a mat clear over black your result will always be a little more gloss than using an ss, so you may need to add more flattener, testing is best.
What's the distinction between SPI water-like color in clearcoat? How does it differ from other so called, clear or white colored clearcoats? I'm trying to expand my knowledge in the matter. Thank you

Most clears will very in color and that depends on a few things like type of polyol and mixture of UV's added, none much of a concern as difference in can at a 6" thickness does not matter when mils are applied to car..
