Epoxy Question

Sprinter14

This summer I decided to paint my sprinter, it's the first vehicle I've ever painted.

The sprinter is my daily driver so I opted to use epoxy and no 2k... I have all the dents out and it's looking pretty good in all white epoxy.

It's turned out better than I thought and now I don't want to paint it outside to avoid bugs....
I am having a time finding a place to paint it so I was thinking about just waiting until next summer...

Any harm in leaving it as epoxy over a colorado winter??? I know it might yellow and I would need to sand before either recoating or painting...

You’ll be fine to leave it in epoxy. It has UV inhibitors in it. However, if you were to leave it in epoxy I’d make sure it had at least 3 coats.

However, painting outside might not be as bad as you think. I have a thread here where I discuss a 28’ camper I painted. The entire thing was painted outside. Very few bugs and it was a cleaner job than I get in my paint booth…but that could also be because most of the real estate was vertical.

I think only black epoxy has UV inhibitors if I followed Barry correctly.

Look on the ingredients listing on the can. The 41556 UV is a UV absorber. It is in both my gray and black cans. I don’t have a white can but I’m 99% all the colors have it.

I originally had a picture posted of the ingredient listing but I've removed it so it's not so easy for competitors to see it.

I have been ending up with bugs in the epoxy after spraying... which sand out... I'm also very slow, I'm shooting with a r500 because my air compressor is to small to run a normal gun.

I might have a new wind... a guy said he would rent his greenhouse for 500 a week... I haven't stopped by to check it out...but fingers crossed.

A greenhouse sounds very hot…might not be ideal.

What time of day are you spraying? In the afternoon/evening you can expect a lot of bugs. There’s a lot fewer in the morning.

Interesting. I asked not long ago and @Barry said only black now has UV protection.

These were new gallons I just bought but they are 2022 production. Maybe it’s a new change for 2023.

I guess for the OP, the best way to know for sure then is to check your can and see if UV is listed.

i do remember barry saying black only at one point. that may have changed but im pretty sure he doesnt have different labels for the epoxy colors. hence the sticker on the label that shows part # and color. doesnt matter though. the white will be fine outside. just sand it and spray a sealer coat of epoxy before you base next year.
