They have solvent, water, and single stage urethane. The SS is a polyurethane. Solid colors only in SS.
As far as knowing if it is a "good" base or not, like I've said before, Akzo isn't going to put junk out there in the market. By junk I mean converted enamels, etc...
Up until I switched to Pro-Spray, I was using all Akzo products and they really don't have a product in any of their lines that is junk. If anything they are phasing out some awesome products for whatever reason. Things like the CR Washprimer (I'm sure due to the EPA) and reforming the utech system and getting rid of polybase (suppose to replace it with something "better"). They just aren't known having an arsenal of bad products like you have with ppg/basf/dupont.
There is a reason they are keeping Wanda as a stand alone system. They can make a mid line system that competes with alot of the top line systems at an affordable price because you don't get all of the junk built in with it like you would with Lesonal or Sikkens. It is all about choice, some shops don't want all the bloatware like you get in Windows PC's you buy at Best Buy . Utech is a great system, but the color match was lacking for a budget line system. Lesonal eventually moved out of that range as paint prices increase, unless you are spending 30k a month. If they moved this into their system with full product support, not only is the price going to go up, but honestly it would kill Lesonal sales as far as basecoat. Either that, or they dumb it down to something like omni or nason, and they just aren't going to do that. I believe they would get rid of the line before they do that.
Believe it or not, they do have SOME tech support. You just need to go through your jobber. The jobber DOES have someone to call on some things. If you have a mixing system, the software updates just about every month over the internet. Maybe a few times a year they will come by with a disc to do a hard update. They really have the color system down, it is just everything else beyond that where the system lags. The Low Voc clear, however, is a pretty good clear for production work.
