Auto Rod Tech's Project Thread

Tight fit. looks clean. is it going back out for chrome, or body matched?

Nickel is one step from chrome right?

A chromer talked me out of this before claiming it wouldn't last as long as brushed chrome.

Probably ripped me off who knows, I have had more trouble with chrome guys than powder coat guys.

From what I understand, chrome is technically a clear product, so the nickel is applied, then brushed and then afterwards the clear chrome would be applied.. If you left it in just the nickel it probably wouldn't hold up.. I've talked to two places about this and one didn't seem as educated about it as the second.

Chrome seems to take away the very slightly yellow look of plain nickel, so while it may be translucent, it adds blue to the appearance.

Quick little floor pan job that the customer started and brought to us to get it finished.. We were able to get it done this week in between everything else.

He had purchased all of the panels and i was pretty impressed with the fit of everything...

Spent a good part of the weekend setting up the drive shaft and building the front half of the exhaust for the C-10..
The back half is going to get interesting..

As of now it looks like its going to be brushed nickel done by a chrome shop..
You might want to do some more checking on it, as I understand it you have to be careful polishing nickel, because you will notice that the cloth turns black. Meaning you are removing it. Chrome protects it.

Yea, from what I understand they brush the Nickel and then apply the chrome for protection. I am most likely going to go this route.

Masking the days away as well.

Every time a paint another project I always forget how much time is spent masking. I hate it!!

Looks good.

Wow! Awesome metal work! Looks like you used an English wheel to smooth and shape the metal?

I used a E-Wheel for a good majority of the work but pre shrunk it on something similar to a stump first.
