5000 clear

so at 4.1.2, you need to triple coat to get the 2.1 mils esp. if you are sanding?
Depends. If your a heavy painter you may achieve 2 mils with one double wet coat or two separate wet coats. If I was just wanting 2 mils dry and didn't have to sand and buff, I'd go 4:1:1 then spray one heavy coat and call it a day.

No problem Ed. I like to see how diffrent clears compare. Used some euro 4:1:1 1/2 with a shot of polar. Could pull out of booth in 10 mins. I think thats the ticket

Thanks for the writeup on mil thickness, Rodman. I have been using Euro at 4:1:1.5 since soon after its introduction. Even though you don't have any results from this ratio, I think about 2.5 mil can be inferred with a double coat, which to me is right on the money.

With the testing we did Scott I'm leaning toward leaving it as is. I think we have more options to offer. I like having a little more control by adding more or less reducer as well as Polar. What do you think; leave it as is or make it faster?

I think your right on with your film build assumtion. 2.5 mils is considered by some manufacturers as high build. And even with sanding should achieve a final build of 2.0 dry.

In an old thread it was pointed out that the Euro 2.1 WAS the same same as the Euro 3.5 except it had thinner added to make it 2.1. It was also pointed out that you could use the Euro 2.1 activators in the 3.5(since it is the same stuff just mixed 4:1:1). The question is why did everyone keep clamoring for "new activators" if you could simply have used the 2.1 activators? Just tweaking them up to make them even better? Not sure everyone picked up on the fact that Euro 2.1 is(was?) really 3.5 reduced by the ratio of 4:1:1. I think the answer probably is he got feedback and made the new activators to try to meet what people requested most. I guess it is still true you could use the very slow 2.1 activator with the Euro 3.5 and have yet another option. Where it would fall in the lineup I don't know.

Sen, I'm not to sure about using the 2.1 Euro activator in the 3.5 version. The 2.1 is designed to spray 4:1 w/o reducer. If you used the 2.1 activator in the 3.5 you would be underactivating it. The Universal 2.1 and 4.2 activators are interchangeable.

I see, with a bit of jealosy, that the new Euro 2.1 has been graced with at least 3 and possibly 4 hardeners now. Will the Euro 3.5 ever get any faster hardeners, or is it on the way out as more areas pass strict VOC laws?

Is it time for me to switch if I want a speedier Euro for cold weather?

Its the same stuff!!!! the 3.5 has only one activator because you, control the viscosity and the speed with the reducer.

All we did was turn the 3.5 into 2.1 and added reducer to make it equivalent to the 3.5 being reduced 4:1:1 (or close to) so we have to have multi activators.

You can use it, even though it says 2.1 Voc, we are selling a fair amount in non voc areas, over all its our 2nd best selling clear now, out selling the 3.5 by about 4-1.

Because I have added reducer the OH/NCO ratio would be all out of wack.

Yes he can use it in his area even though not a 2:1 VOC area.
