5000 clear

We have had requests over the life span of this clear for a slower activator and a faster activator.

My argument has been, you decide the speed with the reducer you use and some shops like to stock one speed of reducer, only. Not a great idea for quality work work but I understand them wanting to keep inventory and costs down.

SO, I give, in next week we will come out with a slow and a fast activator to go along with our normal activator for this clear.

May be ready next week.

Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Can you share any details? I would assume the slow has more trimer, and the fast has more tin?

I hope this works out, I will feel guilty if it doesn't!

Well plan was just a solvency change, Trimer????? are you willing to pay a few bucks more for the slow and even at that it cannot be as much as the universal.

Barry, I like Crashes idea. This is what I would like to see:
NORMAL Activator - Leave it as is; if it ain't broke don't fix it!
SPOT/PANEL Activator - add tin and some trimmer to make it fast enough to be a spot/panel clear yet flexible enough for bumpers (30 min. dry @ 77degrees to sand and buff/deliver)
OVERALL Activator - add enough trimmer to give us 3 maybe 4 weeks of sand and buff time (not to much to take away it's scratch resistance)
As for price increase to cover cost; $5-10 more for either activator is not a problem if it gives us the additional abilities we want and need!
Just my opinion but I agree with it :)

I wonder if many feel as I do, that would be willing to pay quite a few bucks more for a hardener that would help ease the rush on big completes. Even in a production style atmosphere it can be a week before a complete gets buffed. I would ideally wait at least that long, even on a job that is not too fancy, because a lot of solvent is still coming out of the paint that will cause contraction later if buffed too soon.

To me it's a fine line between waiting for the solvent, and the clear getting a lot harder to buff.

I would assume a hardener like that would be about ten bucks more, and it would be worth it in my eyes.

Maybe some other 5000 users would have something to say? Jim C?

Guys, I was going to write the formulas today, to make next week but I like your ideas and will put whole thing on hold to hear more ideas, cost for the slow activator would be 2-5 at most off top of my head.

Also for the record the normal activator will not be touched in any way as to many shops have it dialed in as it sets.

You guys are good!

OK, guys, I'm sold! I will up trimer on the "all over activator" and will do that first, as that is easy to formulate, the fast will take me a few weeks as I will need to play will gel times to push to max but not so far I end up with a de-lamination issue like another company has been going through.

Barry, will you be able to up the trimmer on the Spot/Panel activator too? The reason I ask is when I have encouraged customers to accelerate Euro before, some have complained it got too hard to sand and buff even after only a few days. If they put it in the sun for a day, even less open time. Please? :)

Rodman,
Not real sure about that , will see and test--best I can say at this point with the fast.

First thought, I'm needing more space in the van for all the different activators.
How will these changes assist the collision shops? Will reductions be the same? Shops here have normal activator dialed in with reducers.

Cal, everything will stay the same as far as mixing ratios and the 5002 activator will not be changed or touch one iota as to many shops have that dialed in the way they want and know it will work.

One reason, I do like the slow activator for all overs Idea, is look what 4004 did for the universal compared to the 4003, a real unexpected benefit in the look of the clear.
I'm thinking the slow will give us more opportunities for the 5000 also.

I will formulate and get the slow made this week but the fast will take some playing around with but should have by fall.

Thanks Barry, I know the 4004 is working well with some of my shops. I look forward to introducing them to a greater range and chooice for the 5000.

We have made it and I have sprayed it this morning next to the regular activator and booth mixed with medium urethane reducer @ 4:1:1
The flash is about twice and it should buff pretty good for a few weeks anyways.

I can see where mixing with 5002 at different percentages may really work out good.

The guys will start packaging in a few minutes, so should be ready first thing in morning.

Looking at a $2 premium. #5003-4.
