Today i nsprayed 3 coats of black epoxy on my bare metal decklid with 80 grit D.A.scratch.It was 73 degrees in the shop.I then ran out of propane and had to go to work. The decklid stayed in the 60 degree shop for 8 hrs ,when i got home i brought it inside 70degrees will it be allright if i spray reg 2k in 5 days? Thanks

from my llimited experience. i think you could spray 2k tomorrow...you have a 7 day window from the time you spray the epoxy to where you dont have to scuff it with a red scotch brite pad. they like to wait 2 days before putting 2k on top of it though....i dont think you will have a pronlem.

the shop temperature matters.....but the temperature of the metal matters more. they can be very different.

it is recomended that you have the shop at 70° 4 hours before and 4 hours after you spray.
the reason being .....ONLY TO GET and KEEP the metal at at least 65° for 4 hours

what i did......i turned the heat up to 90° and to let the metal get to temp fast. my shop has a large gas heater so within 20 minutes it was there so i didnt have to wait 4 hours before. i shot the coldest parts of the body with a laser temperature checker. once it hit 70° i sprayed it.
i sprayed the car with epoxy left the heat on 90° for 5 hours and left. i came back and shot 2 coats of high build 2k primer on top of the epoxy.
keep in mind.......i shot 1 very light coat. just enough to cover the metal spots i hit from block sanding and act as an adhesion promoter for the high build....... after shooting the high build i left the heat on at 70° For another 12 hours...then shut it off

i do hav an air evac system in the corner of the shop that pulls the fumes out and to help pull the solvents out of the primer as well while its chemically hardening. the airflow over the top of the car helps with this. one side of the car got up to 90° While the epoxy was curing.....

i then came back the next day and turned it on again for another 2 days. my gues and only a guess was that if epoxy has a 7 day recoat window. that means its not fully cured until the 7 days are up....i didnt want it to go dormant and not cure properly. in my inexperience ive left the heat on for all 7 days. now.....i dont think its neccessary so i just left ot on for the 5 hours. maybe someone else will chime in for a more definitive answer

i hope you stirred it after mixing 1:1..... then let it sit for 30 minutes to let it induce..... stirred it again and strained it into the gun.

Sounds like you are fine, if you can give it two days before applying the 2K it should be overkill.
