Which base to choose?

What about flash times? I buy the Wanda HS paint pre-mixed so it is ready to spray then I add a small amount of SPI slow activator. Just trying to see how much it affects flash times since I am still running into solvent pop occasionally.

Wanda reducer is extremely fast. I would not but it ready to spray. Just have it mixed and add spi or another quality reducer to it.

I'm using the pre-mixed Wanda to paint door handles (off the car) for a specific car forum on the side. More so worried on the faster processing side and lower cost (premixed is cheaper).

For my own bumper that I will be painting I will be using SPI slow activator and slow reducer.

I've been buying Wanda HS in different colors for small projects here and there and loved using it. My bumper finally came in so I went to the paint store and asked for a quart of Wanda HS in color KAV. I also brought in my gas cap and the rep looked at it and said Matrix Refinish usually matches better in that color group...so she priced both for me (non-reduced): Wanda HS $60/qt and Matrix Refinish $160/qt. She compared the mixes and said the Matrix will match better since it has something in it that Wanda HS does not. She mentioned it was somewhat like a chameleon color.

Just curious if I was talked into spending more money for no reason... The car is a 2010 Nissan 370z in KAV.

Hmmm i find it interesting that someone that works behind a counter all day and not spraying would know how a specific color code matched in 2 paint lines

It's a small mom and pop store and the rep is the same woman that I've talked to previous times. She consulted the mixer (I assumed her husband) and he said the same thing too. They were out of a specific item for the Matrix so they had to order for next week...he told me I was welcome to go elsewhere if I needed it sooner.

Ugh so based on the recommendations of the paint shop...I paid extra for the Matrix Refinished paint. Looks like I'm going to have to go back tomorrow to have them adjust it cause it still didn't match.

as a general rule of thumb, the people who work for a jobber or own a store like that know nothing other than what is written on a tech sheet. they have no idea about colors or spraying or even tweaking and adjusting colors. they dont spray every day to know such things. they are sales not the person using the product.

So would I have to find a jobber willing to mix/sell to me for best match?

a jobber is just going to look in the computer and mix the standard formula and it is what it is. they arent going to do spray out and adjust or tweak anything like a painter would. thats the drawback to not having your own mixing system. they arent doing matching. they are selling you some paint in the code you choose. it gets me that they told you one paint system would match in a certain color over another system. they have no idea how it matches at all.

Standox has a paint match service that goes off the VIN. It is really close 90% of the time. Call the tech line, give them the VIN and they find the variant.
