What are your bad habits in this line of work

My # 1 bad habit is, when blowing off a panel with compressed air, I somehow think I need to get the air nozzle as close to the panel as I can, which leads to scratching the panel with the tip of the air gun. I've done this so many times I've resorted to smacking my hand with a hammer each time I do it to break the bad habit.

I wouldn't call this next one a bad habit, rather an idiot mistake. When I received my full face 3M respirator it came with two peel and stick protective lenses. Well I looked at the mask and it appeared to already have one installed. I went to change the protective lens on my last spray session and realized there was no protective lens installed. What I had seen originally that made me think there was a protective lens already installed was the outlined raised area where the protective lens goes. Just ordered a new mask because this one is now toast. I'll use the messed up full face mask for sanding. I don't like the sanding dust getting in my eyes.

Doing it in general.... Over commitment, stressing over results.....nitpicking my own work.....it all sucks.

Those are reasons why you get such outstanding results. My father told me you can't teach ethics, you either have them or you don't.

you will find that the older you get the more time it takes, you'll pick it apart, and generally lose your ass.

I agree with the 1st part of your statement 100%. Being anal retentive has its good and bad points. I'm sure the 2nd part of your statement is for the guys who are doing this for financial reasons.

As of Mother's Day, I've been working on the same car for 22 years. Took long breaks to build two separate houses, but still, 22 years.

I'm close to painting the top side of the shell. Looking at the bottom of the shell, I'm really trying hard to not embark on redoing it.

You're just pacing yourself :)

Hanging out on this forum instead of out working in the shop… :D

Don

I'm only half guilty of that. I have my Ipad in the garage. I check in when I take my many breaks thru out the day. Besides, I couldn't live with myself if someone needed help and I wasn't here to provide my many months of experience :)

I have to go mow the lawn so your on duty to answer questions.
