I am out of 700 wax and grease remover and need to clean a panel tomorrow, I have acetone, laquer thinner, spray way glass cleaner and rubbing alcohol. Will any of these work?
Acetone and lacquer thinner will leave a film on your surface so don't use those.I am out of 700 wax and grease remover and need to clean a panel tomorrow, I have acetone, laquer thinner, spray way glass cleaner and rubbing alcohol. Will any of these work?
At what ratio? I have some 98% stuff that just sits.Might as well use it up.Acetone and lacquer thinner will leave a film on your surface so don't use those.
For years before I discovered SPI, I did use Isopropyl Alcohol. Same technique as W&G remover, spray it on and wipe it off before it dries.
70% and up.At what ratio? I have some 98% stuff that just sits.Might as well use it up.
Not on bare metal!?!?Sprayway is all I ever use anymore.
I'll use 710 for that. Or spray way. Usually heavy grease I'm using dawn soap or 710. Before paint strictly spray away. Not on bare metal!?!?
Curious as to why?I'll use 710 for that. Or spray way. Usually heavy grease I'm using dawn soap or 710. Before paint strictly spray away.
Mix with water at whatever ratio you want, as water will slow the dry speed and make it stronger. At what ratio? I have some 98% stuff that just sits.Might as well use it up.
Just had it on hand and never went back I guess.Curious as to why?
That's what I used recently before painting my 55 Chevy.I use Dawn dish soap and that's all I ever use except for maybe a touch up
of a dirty spot before painting, then a little W&G.
But after Dawn, that's all.
Does sprayway have isopropyl alcohol or are you diluting it as mentioned above. Would windex and isopropyl alcohol 50-50 be close to the same ?We use Sprayway as a pre-prep cleaner for panels, mostly because it's handy, cheap, and effective. It can be used liberally on exteriors and jambs with no fear of damage or worrying about overuse of expensive product. It can be used as a final prep on scuffed basecoat if there is no 710 available, as 700 is too strong for basecoat. So far it's never caused us a problem but we still prefer to use the approved stuff on final when possible, perhaps out of superstition? Bare metal ALWAYS gets 700, nothing else cleans like it.
I don't think Sprayway has alcohol in it. It has some kind of very mild solvent in it that I have forgotten the name of, it's supposed to be mild and relatively non-toxic. The Sprayway we use comes in aerosol cans and is used as-is, I buy it at Costco in a 4-packDoes sprayway have isopropyl alcohol or are you diluting it as mentioned above.
