Waterborne paint

jim there already is a limco brand low voc basecoat. its enamel. and its cheap as shit. and quality seems to be the same.

Shows you how much i use limco. Anyway, according to my jobber who really doesnt know much, there is something new being developed. That could be a bunch of crap though......who knows.

Rumors (inside) has it, that new item is a low VOC Diamont, that would be an a'' kicker, for sure.

Sorry silk, just set back and watch the fire works for next 2-4 years, it will be exciting, as no company is stupid enough, just to say, all we have is home depot paint, because that opens the market up for some aggravating little crap company that makes stuff in a bathtub, to get crazy and take their business.

Last count there were around 175 paint manufacturers in the US and don't think the big four are not aware of this.

People have no idea, there is 30-45 in GA alone and give you one example, there is a company that makes acrylic enamel for amusement parks, finest stuff there is, I would put it up against any urethane SS.
I tried to buy company, I tried to get them to private label me a dozen colors, will not do and they won't even sell me a gallon.

Had one company here that just did epoxy, only epoxy that would go head to head with mine but they sold only specialized industry, PPG bought them about 5 years ago.

Most people only know the majors.

i love how guys who never used enamel call it junk. centari was one fine paint. with the glamor pak it could not be beat.

u know as well as i do that the majors that spent the time and money to r and d. and switch people over, they arent guna easily go back. too much time, money, and effort invested. i know one line atleast that will probably never make solvent basecoat again in the future.

Well i dont think a low voc solvent base needs to be developed from the ground up. We are talking solvents here. Should just be a matter of rearranging them a bit and switching out for some exempt ones. How hard is that.....but what the hell do i know. There would be alot more r&d with water since that is the new technology. I have to agree though, if the competition has a product another company isnt going to just sit by and loose possible sales especially on something they were previously in the business of making.

if one brings out a low voc the rest will fall over themselves to do the same. been that way forever. i have watched every new wonder paint come and go for 40 + years. 3 times they tried the water and 3 times it failed miserably. each time it was the thing of the future and would be all that we could use. i have news for you , it doesn't matter what they want us to use it comes down to what we will use. look how long it took to get rid of lacquer. someone will develop an alternative to water and and if sells warrant it the rest will follow.

ppg and dupont wont wipe their ass unless the other does it first. and neither has a product i would use any more besides concept and i'm looking for a replacement for it. plan to try prospray ss next. i would go back to rm but damn it's high. i used rm lacquer in the 60's and 70's . it kicked ppg and duponts ass back then. i'll just wait for the low voc cause i aint using no water crap period.

It is expensive but i dont think it any more than any other premium line. They are all damn expensive anymore.

The shop that I work at does about 100 cars a week, with 2 painters and 4 booths. They have been working on modifying the booths for waterborne, and the boss had planned on going to that this past summer, but they are behind on that. It will be interesting how that all works out. I just don't see how that is going to work with our workload.

man you guys crack me up. we are literally on 2 different planets when it comes to paint. if they make a national rule voc for base @ 3.5. u guys would all be using matrix compliant base. even u shine.

jim, the only 2 solvents that are compliant and worth a shit are oxsol and acetone. faster in nature then what your used to. small shit there fine. large areas, they have more "flight loss" and get texture easier on metallics.

hok is almost out with there shimrin 2 line. ive got a chance to play around with it. so far, its not bad. havent had a chance to do a complete. but we will see. time will tell.
