Universal Clear

Just thought I would post this. 96 camaro I'm doing an all-over on. Everytime I spray Universal clear, I fall in love over and over and over again.

I just spent about 10 min reading some "hate mail" on another forum, about SPI clears and how they just dont perform over the big guys' clear that cost 3 times as much.

Hmm...I just dont get it. Keep it up Barry! Maybe one day you'll come out with a clear that will spray ITSELF onto these cars...LOL.

Iwata W400LV.

chevman, of course not!! Usually never do....mainly make bogus claims out in left field...I go crosseyed sometimes by the things I read..makes me wonder if they are using the same stuff I am? lol.

I just finished reading other forums for 25 minutes. I am now a little aggravated and have a migraine. I should know better.

But that Camaro looks awesome! And that is something to be proud of! Send some pics to the haters and they will hate you more lol

LOL Dub, you're right...we should know better!! I've gone the pics route....I get in return 1000 pics of them spraying other clears that look just as nice. That isn't the point. Its not just the product, its the service, community, oh and price...but arguing with them at that point is like arguing with the wall. One of them actually has a beef with Barry because he (Barry) wouldn't supply him with FREE material to try out the product. LOL.

Anyway....dan, it comes down to your spraying style. I prefer the w400lv. It puts out more material and is faster than the lph400. Suits my style a little better on all overs. I've gone back and forth between the two and I always come back to the w400.

SLICK! I don't think there's a clear out there that sprays any better than that!

Oh that is funny, you know I love the tech line, Friday I had 107 calls from 7am-7.30pm, a hand full called to thank me for the help getting through the paint job, some were anything from adjusting gun to flash times and although by 8:00 Friday night I was mentally shot, I do enjoy the tech line.

About once a month I will get the stupid call and one this month took the cake, told me the clear he was using (bottom of barrel) and said he would like to try the universal but price was to high.
I explained to him what the universal was made for and he said I don't want a comparison as we do high end work and have cars at pebble beach, I need you to match the price we are paying now.
That was it as i knew there was no way, I said, "so you have cars at pebble beach with that crap you are using, impossible, so which cars"? Oh it was years ago with a different clear.

Here is one of my favorites, I think the guy was from Canada, never painted a car before, except with an aerosol can spot work, told me he knows a lot of people and if I gave him everything, he would put me on the map in Canada. I thought that was a unique approach. He really did get pissed off when I refused.

The next most hated call is other paint companies wanting to buy me, my standard answer is "you don't have enough money" some of these company attorneys have no sense of humor!

Just can't please everyone!

yep! Find it hard to believe guys when they say that "SPI is no cheaper than what I'm using now" And they are using Glasruit, PPG Global, R-M, Spies or Sikkens. They must be getting their products for free.....Or at a 50% discount. Both of which aren't believable.

They can keep drinkin the kool-aid and I'll keep stocking my shelves with SPI products.

Wow that looks nice! What is the other forum?

Pick one. It seems the SPI haters are all over the car sites. To draw them out you just make a post like Jeremy's and start singing the praises of SPI products and in no time they'll find you.

LOL yep! Praise spi and you'll get put down in a hearbeat by the die hard users of the big 3. But yet we are the ones who are the "cult." I love it.

Jeremy, could you post your gun settings and pressure? It's been a long while since I used my W400LV, but thinking back, I was sure able to get some nice finishes with it. I have stayed with the LPH400 because of material savings and less overspray, but for certain jobs I think the W is still the hot ticket.

BTW, the reason advocating for the big 3 is not considered cultish is because it has become organized religion.

I'm around 28-30 psi. Fan about a turn in from wide open. Fluid about 2 turns in from all the way out. Which would probably be 3-3.5 out from all the way in. I'm a little backwards with that adjustment...just the way I was taught. 1.4 tip.

Of course I always adjust before I start spraying but thats where I start. Doesn't really deviate much from these settings with universal.

I've gone back and forth between the w400 and the lp400. I always come back to the w. Definately for allovers. the lph is just too slow for me. I dont think the w400 is faster than the sata rps, however.

Thanks! That sounds like right about how I was using it, I thought I remembered 29 PSI but I am getting a bit foggy in the memory department. Speaking of fog, that is the main reason I stopped using the W. My booth flows so poorly, anything over 4 panels at a time and I needed GPS navigation!

At any rate, I have to give you a lot of credit, it certainly is the man behind the gun that creates an excellent finish, not the gun itself, and boy have you got the skills, in spades!

Barry, I have been trying to put you on the map too so how about some free paint.
I promise I wont post pictures of the crap I turn out or mention that the mess was made with SPI products!

I tried to get the guys on TFFN to try SPI.
One of the "guru's" there said he only believes in using one system from start to finish.
He always is telling how he uses POR 15 and Kirker single stage.
Dam I didn't know Kirker and POR15 were in the same system, ROFLOL.
