Universal clear and Catyl-Ad 8850 hardener

I am attempting to paint my S10 truck. Recently got laid off from my job, money is tight and budget is an understatement. But I started this job and am commited to finish despite the disaproval from the mrs. I really want to use the universal clear. My question is I have 2 qts of Martin senour Catyl-AD 8850 hardener, can I substitute this for spi hardener? 100 bucks is about my limit for the clearcoat but if I have to buy spi's hardener and a gallon of universal clear I am looking at 200 bucks. If I can do this it would be great. If not I have to use some ebay crap clear and hardener I could purchase for 100 bucks combined. I really want to use the universal as I have heard so many great things about it. Thanks for any help. Keith

If you want to use the Catyl-AD hardener, you will need to buy the Martin-Senour product that uses it.

I think it would be a mistake to do all that work to your truck and skimp on the most important thing, a quality clearcoat.

You might want to look into a gallon kit of SPI Production Clear, at $84 it is well suited to your budget and will be better than anything else in that price range.

Ist it will never work right and it will change the universal to the point there would be no point in buying the universal.

Your best and smartest bet is get the clear to match or start from scratch.

Thanks for the advice and lesson fellas. I am going to buy the universal.Crash you are right why take the chance and screw up the last step of the job. That would really go over big with momma lol.Anyways I guess I couldnt even figure out basic math as the universal is 2 sprayable gallons for 230 bucks, at 1:1. Correct? Pretty good deal I guess. Could probably do a few extra coats of clear for the cut and buff I will probably have to do.Is shipping included in the prices? Thanks again.

Correct and no shipping charges.

Universal = no looking back.... Although I like the EURO 5100.

Dont mean to "e-blow" Barry or SPI, but these products are the only way to fly!

This is not a show truck by any means, just a daily driver. But I do want the best shine, DOI and a clear that will hold up and last. As far as my ability will allow anyway. I dont think I was seriously considering the cheap ebay type clear. Just wanted to make sure that the catyl-ad would work or not, cause that would have helped me a ton. I really want the universal and will figure a way to scrounge up the cash to buy it. Thanks
