Understanding base coat

Thought it would be a good idea to make a thread about the different types of base coats there are. Things like how activating a certain base will change how it works, what it does to make it better. Pros and cons of what type you are using. Anything from basic information to how they are made, I know I will learn something as I'm sure a lot of people will on here as well. maybe it will take off maybe not, feel free to give any information you want.

Most base coats are pretty close as far as how they are made, some are heavy polyester, like Diamont, Metallux and tend to offer more metallic control and dry faster but perhaps sacrifice adhesion to accomplish the speed, not that the adhesion is a problem but proper reducer and coating sealer times must be followed more carefully.

there are some bases that smell like enamel and we don't need to talk about them, in my book.

Most of the other standard bases are pretty similar and about all you can talk about would be coverage and color match.

I get people asking all the time if pro-spray is acrylic or poly. label says acrylic but aren't they all kind of a combination of both anymore?
