turbo 2k hardener shelf life

Whats the average shelf life on the turbo 2k hardener once opened? My mix room is a block room with a heater set at 65 all winter.

I would say i've had the primer a little over 6-7 months..still have about half a gallon left and went to prime today and noticed the hardener was milky white. Popped open a new hardener that i just ordered along with another gallon of primer and it was clear, obviously.

This normal after this period of time? Now i am not ruling out that its my fault and i might have not sealed it all way after the last time i used it. Very good possibility as i've made a mistake or two in my life! ;)

SPI Turbo 2K Primer Activator Shelf Life

It is just impossible to say once opened.
I have seen it good two years later and I have seen it go bad in 30 days.

A lot depends how much is used out of the can, more air and humidity that displaces product, the faster it will go bad.
Also, it IS possible to get a can not true and never does reseal good once the tab is pulled. As few I hear about going bad, I would say that is the case nine times out of ten.
Also the other one out of 10 seems to be where over half of activator is gone.

I always cap the can directly after pour, no matter if it will be open again in a few minutes.

Also, I invert the can briefly after capping, under the theory that hardener will tend to fill and harden in any small gap in the cap etc.

I have not had one go bad yet, though it may have nothing to do with my voodoo rituals, lol!

Always put top on as soon as you pour, do not leave top off or lose because you may mix more.

Also if you know activator will be setting a while, give it a shot of Argon from the mig welder to displace the air and moisture.

I just had a reg 2k activator go bad but there was only about a inch or so left in the bottom of the can, just tossed it out. looked like it had some floaties in it lol.. I always look in the activator can every time i mix something.

How to tell if a 2K primer activator is going bad

Anytime you see little snow flakes, white coating on bottom of can or a cloudiness in color, it is going bad.

The more air you keep out the better.
I've added marbles in the past to bring the level up,
it really helps it to last longer.
(don't laugh Barry)
I've also poured it off into a smaller can.

Here's a tip for the caps.
When I open a can of clear or hardener I throw the cap
into a cup of thinner I keep on the bench.
I replace the cap with a clean one every time.
(I keep a cup of several old ones that have been soaked a few days)
Makes opening the cans much easier and cleaner each time,
which probably helps on sealing too.

Well shit, at least we know where your marbles have gone now.. thanx for pointing that out.. haha.... Muuuaaahhhhhhhh ;)

Would primer hardener go bad before a clear hardener (given the same time frame and amount of material in both containers)? I've used some clear hardeners stored in the same room up to a year after opened with no problems, or any that i can see. This is probably the longest i've ever let an already opened can of primer hardener sit on the shelf. Almost positive i didn't seal the cap all the way, and half the hardener was gone already.
