thinned epoxy on engine time to paint single stage

I am wanting to paint a fresh engine. I'm wanting to use some single stage I have left over. I have always just spray bombed engines in the past. Can I thin some epoxy say 4:1:1 and paint over it in a few hours? I know 2 coats of epoxy and wait a couple days would be ideal, but wouldn't this still be better than spray bomb engine paint? This is nit a show car, it is my daily driver Cummins.

Yes, thin would be better than aerosol, but why not two full coats today and shoot paint anytime tomorrow.
Show or not, why chance a piece of paint coming off.
