spring forward-fall back

This is a spring that holds the hood of my car up. The long tab that points up, is in the stationary position. When you close the hood, the hood forces the tab down (to the left) a little less than 90°. That tab is about 12" high and the spring width is about 36". Do you think I would have a problem painting it with epoxy, and it holding up to the bending force?
Also, I plan on doing the same with the wheel springs at all four corners. Regular spring where the shocks are mounted inside them.
Am I OK to do this?
Thanks guys

naa, i doubt it. epoxy is extremely flexible. of all the things you could paint it with i would think that would be the best.

Also, it may be easier to brush or dip in the epoxy and then hang up.

I try to save the small items like hinges and then mix up a quart or so and pout in a 5 gallon home depot bucket, stick the thing in there and slosh it around or dip a brush and coat it, then hang up. Works great and saves material as something like that you are blowing 90% that missed in the air.

Thanks Jim.
Barry, great Idea.
Canton, I though you were in Blairsville.

I just stripped the torsion bars for my '55 Chevy trunk lid. The factory lacquer on these things held up fine so I don't think you will have any problem at all. I would think that lacquer would be about the least forgiving paint there would be for flexing.

Since they twist over the entire length of the bar, they really don't move much at any given point. A coil spring is the same in that regard. I am going to epoxy prime mine and paint it the same as the trunk lid underside. Haven't decided yet whether that will be bc/cc or ss.
