SPI packing

Is is possible to pack SPI products without styrofoam peanuts?. I'm sure they are convienient,... but, the styrofoam is huge mess to unpack. It clings to everything, as well the styrofoam is a enviromental disaster. Just wondering

Sorry but no.
The reason we are able to pay freight is because all hazardous shipping charges are waved and to do this we must get re-certified every 2 years.
Last I knew, I think hazardous fee was 20-25 dollars per gallon.

We have looked at non static Styrofoam but the cost difference is way to much to use, it is very easy for use to ship out up to a 100, of the 14x14 boxes a day, so you can see how this would add up fast.

We buy a truck load at a time of the Styrofoam peanuts to keep the cost down, so we don't need to charge freight.

My SPI experience has been pretty rewarding, with the exception of those @*#% styro peanuts!

I'd pay for better, but having said that, I'm sure to be a minority.

We've been grinning and bearing it for nearly 5 years now.

On the upside, the boxes are great for other things!

I completely understand and love free shipping but I agree the peanuts, ugghh.

Maybe a 5.00 per order packing fee? or something like that and maybe that would cover biodegradable peanuts or some other option?

My customers wouldn't pay a extra $5.00 for me to get my packages without the peanuts.

I'll take the ones you guys don't want, i'm getting low.

Besides the mess. 2fold issue. Oregon, like the other "West Coast" states is trying to be the leader in sustainabilty. Just like waterbased, and low VOC changes. I know it is a hassle and most of you guys don't like changes. Styrofoam is shunned here. My shop has gone all "Green". Customers love it. I like it. It makes sense. Now, I have to collect the styrofoam and make a special trip, and, pay to recycle it. A lot of other auto parts suppliers...even Amazon, have gone to recycleable packing. I'd like to refer SPI to a few shops nearby, but, can't due to the styrofoam. Don't get me wrong, I love the quality SPI products. Something to think about....

If you have solvent in a bucket, all you have to do is dump the pop corn in the bucket and they will magically disappear.

Ahh Barry, I think that might negate the whole "Green Thinking" 2 stroke is alluding too...

i'm sure barry will survive without the west coast .

Doh...Rough man! :)

I tell you though it is getting kind of ridiculous. In my world some consumers are making purchasing decisions based on things like whether or not the supplier is off the grid (which a few invested 100k in photovoltaics to do) or if you have zero output or even if you reclaim rainwater. It is reasonable? no but I don't make the rules, the consumers do. Oregon (Portland) is some sort of mutant alternate universe though and yes, Barry can live survive without them.

We may ship close to two million of product to the three west cost states, I understand green but I have 47 more states and two more countries to take care of and they may not want to pay the difference.
We are growing at a fast pace in CA without any effort on our part and not had any complaints, of course any customer that wanted me to do something different, with enough volume, I would do, as long as they cover the costs and I'm not punishing anyone else.

A year ago looked at putting name on a nascar but why should all my customers pay for that when maybe only 30% are nascar fans.

Everything has to be built in the price of the product.

If someone wants to pay for special services, so be it, but you are right not worth punishing everybody else for that. that's half the problem of our government.

as far as nascar,, BAD IDEA.. I mean it would be advertising but I remember over the years of you guys saying that your customers are not paying for a nascar driver to race.. I think it's good to stick to those roots.. Same as not buying out shops with paint booths.

I don't think it's worth it in the long run..

Sometimes it's good to be different and not follow the footsteps of the majors. If your going to do something like that. fine, but do something different.

I have to admit, I don't watch it much anymore either, it's changed so much over the years.. they need to move it back to the past when it was stock car..

I'd rather watch drag racing these days.
