Barry, in another area you mentioned using silver under a blue on a vet. Is this a common practice with certain colors? I was working on a Taurus the other day and it had silver under the blue. Does it enhance the color?

blue over silver hides quickly.. ever try to cover silver or blue primer? diff story..

A lot of HofC Colors will use silver as a ground coat as well as tri stages.

The blue on the vet (jet stream) is a tri-stage color and can look dark blue in garage and silver tinted blue in sun light.
The silver is what they recommend for a ground color.
The color under the paint will totally change the look of the final color.

Barry, as a general rule will the color of primer affect the look of any color or type of paint even when a ground coat isnt required?

No, with full coverage, would not matter, except for tri-coats and some reds, oranges, yellow where full coverage may not be possible.

Back when Boyd Coddington had that show on tv they painted a car bright chrome yellow before painting it bright red,,,they said on the show that the yellow made the red brighter and deeper, they were using straight basecoats of BASF im pretty sure,,,any truth to that,,i have thought about trying it but havent yet,,maybe someone can wiegh in on this.

yes it could make a difference. reds are notorious for needs a correct ground coat.
