"Rockstar" Hot Rod US tour

Arrowhead

Oldtimer
As some of you know, my hot rod is on tour with World of Wheels/Autorama courtesy of Factory Five Racing. Well it's on it's fifth stop of the ten stop tour as it's in Dallas this weekend. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought it would get this kind of exposure and I never built it with that intention. But it struck a chord with them and they really like what I did with the car. They told me it shows what can be done by just a guy in his garage and that is their target audience, not the $100K+ pro builds. It's really cool and I'm planning on going to the Detroit Autorama as it will be there among some true works of art.

Any attention the car gets is due in large part to Barry and you guys on this site. Thanks!

Just looks great best part is it is great to know famous people!!!

Surprised no one has tried to buy the car yet???

That is really something to be proud of. I'm just curious, what are your thoughts on the flames after all of this?

I love the car but I have to ask why the door doesn't match? Don't take it wrong, it's a beautiful car, but was the door and hood painted at different times than the shell? or a different batch of paint? different gun?

Thanks everyone, I had a great time at the Detroit Autorama. They are taking really good care of it.

The next show is this weekend at Salt Lake, then Winnipeg on the 16-18, Omaha 23-25 and Boston 30-1.

Seeing it inside under the lights I really noticed some flaws in my paint job and I think a repaint is in order. I wasn't totally happy with it in the first place but it bothers me more now.

I think it looks great, the only thing that I see in the photos is the slight difference in color on the doors and the hood. Maybe more pronounced indoors being it's a bright silver. Definately most people wouldn't notice it but my eyes for some reason tend to focus in on stuff like that. There's a lot of work into that job and also into doing a repaint, I think I'd consider running the odometer up awhile before doing anything, it looks nice and better outside I bet. Did you shoot parts of the car at different times? All with the same batch of paint? Sealer on all of it? Were the doors verticle when sprayed? Same gun? Just trying to figure out the cause of the slight mismatch. You've got a lot of trust in the show and transport people, I bet they have insurance though.

Those lights sure do magnify everything, I managed to find a few places I wanted to buff on mine after seeing it in detroit as well.. Were you there or just your car, would have been cool to meet up!

I sprayed everything seperate, but at the same time and all the panels were hanging in the correct orientation, same gun, sealed and same batch of paint. It's PPG Sterling silver and I follwed the directions and had gotten some helpful hints from the my supplier. It was real blotchy and striped the first couple of coats and then the third and fourth helped even it all out but it wasn't enough. Actually, the door and hood came out good, the rear quaters are "dull" if that makes any sense. Really depends on how the light is hitting it to make it noticeable. Most people won't notice it, but like you and anyone that paints will pick it up. I have improved my technique since as I sprayed my sons Subaru with a very similar silver and it came out very good. It's a lot of work, but I can pull the whole body off in a couple of hours and there would be minimal masking. I have 2500 miles on it and there are a couple of blemishes that need some filler work anyway so it would be a good time to do it. I also have some finishing touches that I'd like to do to the chassis with the body off anyway. The only limitation is cost, it would probably run about a grand for all the supplies so I'll have to see.

I was there but only Thurs night and Friday. Yea, that would have been cool to meet, sorry I missed you. It's going to Salt Lake this weekend.

I'd drive the wheels off of it for a while and re-do it after a season or 2. Look at all the positive feed back it's getting, enjoy it for a year first. But I know what your saying as well, some things will just irritate enough that it has to be fixed. I've just chased things before enough to the point that it takes some of the fun out of it.

Is somebody transporting the car so you don't have to do anything or do you go to all the shows to help?

I was there wednesday, and then friday through sunday.
Tomorrow morning i'm heading to chicago. I'll be glad when the local outdoor shows start so I can just drive to them. lol.

Pull the body off in a couple of hours-that's awesome engineering there!
