Rage Ultra Alternative

I've posted what happened before. Quick summary, I was working straight commission at a Shop. Myself and the other guys started having comebacks. Ended up with a bunch of comebacks, all suffering from filler bubbling/cracking/lifting. We used USC BC/CC (Basecoat/Clearcoat) filler which at the time was a premium filler and very popular. Turns out it wasn't just us having issues, former employer of mine who at that time was the President of a national auto body association said he was hearing from guys all over the country about this issue with BC/CC filler. He said USC was aware of this and was still producing batches of the filler with the issue. They didn't change the formula for months until they had used up all the raw materials.

I had dozens of cars that had issues. I worked for 6 weeks straight repairing them, not making any money. Eventually had to quit the job as the comebacks were still piling up. So did the other 2 body guys there. Because everyone quit the Owner of the Shop ended up closing it. All because of USC's faulty filler. They never honored their warranty nor acknowledged there was a problem. Once they changed the formula back to how it was prior the issue went away. They still sell BC/CC. I think it's called BC/CC Extra now. It cost me a lot of money and a job I liked. So no I will never use their products again.
same thing happened with evercoat and their rage gold many years ago. might have been around the 2006 time period. all kinds of issues with their filler cracking. looked like a dried lake bed. people all over having the same issue. they never honored any warranty or acknowledged any issue.

Interesting. Never heard of that issue with Evercoat. I will say this about Evercoat, the one time I had an issue they made it right, replaced the product, and compensated me for my loss as well. Wasn't any huge amount but it was what I was asking of them.

I tried a few of the brand names, all expensive but was happy with the Marson Platinum (not the plus) when I tried it. Later they were bought out by 3M and the filler seemed changed slightly in that the first layer is a bit more difficult to sand off. However, I have never had issues with it failing, cracking or pinholes.

That was around the same time as the USC issues I described. BC/CC was also a gold filler. Wonder if it was a materials issue?
Maybe it was something they both used that was bought from the same supplier. Maybe had two different recipes but one chemical was the same in both different recipes. Just thinking. I know I've got the same color in two different brands and one looks completely better than the other. Both are medium to low quality as far as that goes. Their not top tier base coats.

The 3m/Marson is definitely good stuff. I use a lot of Z Grip for my budget stuff. I’ve heard some good things about some of the Roberlo fillers was thinking of trying it out. Also have never tried upol fillers. I’ve used their glazes plenty of times…maybe the filler is worth looking in to?

I'm old and I will pay for something I don't have to spread in 5 minutes. Rage Ultra Extra is so worth the extra money to have the time to spread PROPERLY, with less sanding to clean up trying to hurry.

I picked up some U-POL One Fill at my jobbes trade show at a discount price in October. Very smooth and nice to spread but takes forever to cure and sands a little hard..................So back to my Rage Ultra . No pin holes with the U-Pol One Fill.

Thanks for taking one for the team :)

I've wondered about Upol filler because I've used some of their other products which I like that produced good results on another project. I like Upols 2253 Primer. It's a 3 in one primer. Sprays good, sands good. I've also used their fiberglass filler UP0766
