Rage Ultra Alternative

I'm a backyard restorer and it's been a couple of years since I last bought a gallon of Rage Ultra. The price then was $52. The current price is over $100. Is there a cheaper alternative that will still give good results and sands easily? Keep in mind my cars aren't going to Pebble Beach.

Z-Grip #282 is a good one. It will not sand as easy as Rage, but it is much better then the cheap ones. I sell Rage Ultra for $79 here, but to ship it would probably add $30-$40

Nothing sands easier than Ultra. What is your time worth?

Not only that but, the cost for material for painting an entire vehicle, even though costs are higher, are rather small compared to having a professional paint your vehicle. I haven't added up my consumables yet but guessing, I bet it will be under $3,000.

3m marson 1131 or 1171 also spread and sand good. Around $70.00 or so . It's what I use .
I have used the 1171 for years now. The price has gone up as well but you can still get a good deal on it. Bought some on Amazon for under $70 and it came wrapped in plastic but the top had opened and some leaked out. When I contacted them, they refunded my money and let me keep the filler.

I try to give them as little business as possible. After what I had to deal with on defective USC filler and the way the company acted, I will never use their filler again. I don't like the USC paper anyway. Tears too easy. Norton makes paper that is far superior IMO.
Yikes. Sounds like it was probably a messy situation. That always leaves a bad taste in my mouth about a company as well. I can’t say I blame you.

I've posted what happened before. Quick summary, I was working straight commission at a Shop. Myself and the other guys started having comebacks. Ended up with a bunch of comebacks, all suffering from filler bubbling/cracking/lifting. We used USC BC/CC (Basecoat/Clearcoat) filler which at the time was a premium filler and very popular. Turns out it wasn't just us having issues, former employer of mine who at that time was the President of a national auto body association said he was hearing from guys all over the country about this issue with BC/CC filler. He said USC was aware of this and was still producing batches of the filler with the issue. They didn't change the formula for months until they had used up all the raw materials.

I had dozens of cars that had issues. I worked for 6 weeks straight repairing them, not making any money. Eventually had to quit the job as the comebacks were still piling up. So did the other 2 body guys there. Because everyone quit the Owner of the Shop ended up closing it. All because of USC's faulty filler. They never honored their warranty nor acknowledged there was a problem. Once they changed the formula back to how it was prior the issue went away. They still sell BC/CC. I think it's called BC/CC Extra now. It cost me a lot of money and a job I liked. So no I will never use their products again.
