Put Too Much Activator in Urethane

Rookie mistake, because I am a paint rookie, sprayed under-carriage with epoxy primer 2:1 which is how it is supposed to be mixed. Then I mixed the urethane base 2:1 as well when it should have been 4:1. It looks good for now, but will it ever cure?

Thanks in Advance.

Mike

Ok title was corrected
So it's ss. Where it's sprayed, you are fine; the extra activator will make paint stronger, maybe depending on the brand but slow down the drying depending on brand.

It was the House of Kolor Hot Rod Flat. The epoxy went down fine, I let it flash, I kept my head in the 2:1 mode when mixing the 2 stage urethane opposed to mixing 4:1. I’ve checked it, it seems to be getting harder.

Do you mean 1:1 with epoxy? If you sprayed epoxy 2:1 then you used half as much activator as you should have.
The ppg tech sheet directed 2:1 on the epoxy for MP 170, I should have brought up the Tech for the House of Color stuff as they did not put one in the shipping box. Of course I look it up out of curiosity when I’m done. I wish that I’d been more curious before hand.

If adding more activator makes it stronger, will that also make it more prone to chipping?

We will find out. I know there is more orange peel than I like, fortunately it is on the bottom of the car and still looks 1000 percent better than it did. If it chips too much I’ll probably just undercoat it.

Ok. This being an SPI forum, I assumed you were using SPI epoxy since you hadn't specified any differently.

Several years ago someone brought me something similar, same company different name , to put on couple fenders he had to finish out his antique truck. He was going to have that as his topcoat. Rat rod so to speak. 2:1 was also the correct mix for what I used. I didn't like how it sprayed and never used the remainder of it that he gave me. Tossed it out few months ago.
