Polar Accelerators

Thought I would break this section in with some general questions. I am going to do a set of headlights soon and was thinking of using the polar to speed things up. On my first set I did a couple weeks ago, I wet sanded with 600 and then shot 2 coats of clear. I could reinstall in about 6 hours. Has anyone used it to speed up the clear? If so, what clear and what ratio do you use? What size cans does it come in? What is the shelf life of it? Any other tips about using or storing? Thanks in advance!

Comes in quarts.
Shelf life is pretty much indefinite.
The tin used is the same tin used in 2K primers and urethane type clears as well as SS paints.

One caution on this end would be abusing it in summer and using it during a rain storm and a 1.3 tip to top it all off. I can just hear that phone call!!!!

I still don't understand the prob. with a 1.3 tip. That's what my lph300 has and it sprays universal great and I use the accelerator year round.

But you are doing small area's, you don't count!!! LOL

Its the allovers, I was referring to or, say a side and front end.

What the tin does in the accelerator, is draws the moisture and air and mates it with the iso's.
So if we wanted to make the universal from the factory buff in ten minutes, we could do that by increasing the tin.

So with a 1.3 over atomizing the clear and a high humidity and warm air, too much polar can cause the clear to solvent pop and also the potential of being impossible to buff the next day, to the point of re-clearing because the 2000 scratches will not come out.

That is why south of the mason Dixon line we say don't wet the floor.

So when it is 40deg I can use a lot of polar to get my clear to dry a lot faster? Will it still go dormant at 50deg? I want something like the SW HC15 in dry time.

So with a SATA 1.3 I shouldn't spray the SPI clears??? If I'm rolling the dice I'd rather not chance it......

From my experience, regular Euro with fast hardener, mixed 4:1:2 or 4:1:2.5 with 860 and about 3% Polar would get you very close to HPC15.

I had a mix like that gel in my cup once while I was making test panels. I think it was like 30-40 minutes.

You could get a 1.4 gun instead of giving up on SPI so quick.

Kent, i recently tested HPC15, DC2000 and Euro202 with fast activator. While S&W and PPG mix at 4:1:1, you have to mix Euro at 4:1:2 to match the others thinner build per coat. The PPG has two accelerated reducers, Fast and Medium which give it a speed advantage over S&W and SPI. (Their accelerated reducers come in plastic bottles which suggest an acid based accelerator vs. SPI's Tin based accel) PPG was fastest, then S&W, then Euro. When Euro is mixed with 1-2 oz. of accel, it is faster than both. Barry has said when current inventory is sold he would make next batch of fast activator so adding accel to it would not be necessary. Can't wait!

I have a 1.4 gun....actually 2. But I like my 3000RPs best. They both have 1.3.

The 3000- 1.3 Sata RP will spray the SPI clear just fine.

The 3000-1.3 Sata HVLP will not, as a matter of fact the 3000 HVLP with a 1.4 barley shoots the clear, it will but you really need to work the gun and be slow.

I do have a 1.3 Sata 3000 HVLP but its for base. My 1.3 RPs are for SS, Clears, and even Base. Thanks Barry.

emphasis on 3%. clean gun immediately after, no pot life LOL. ive shot it through my little mini iwata successfully (small pieces) and ive played too much and shot spiderwebs like spiderman!

had poly primer kick once...eeewww!

I love the polar. Today air temp 30 and cloudy all day so panels were the same. Put a cap and a half to 3oz of universal and was able to reassemble in about 30 min. Pretty cool.

I always wait until the first coat is finger slick to do the second. The fast really flashes off fast.

Ok, I guess I am ignorant in not knowing what this means. What is "SW HC15" referring to? I know this post is old, hopefully no one tells me I am replying to an old post....lol
