Need advice

I shot my car last week with the matte black SPI singke stage. It didnt come out very good. Seems like i need more fluid on the gun adjustment, idk. When i sanded the stuff, it has alot of spots that look to be staining from maybe water/oil from the compressor, again, idk...
I will say, this stuff is absolutely the worst stuff to sand. I have 2 filters one desiccant and one toilette paper shaped filter just after a homeade dryer setup.., plus the inline filter on the gun. I shot the paint at around 6am with 60% himidity and about 80 degrees. Any advice would be great before i throw in the towel and take it to someone.

Looks to me like you didn't get it sanded down flat.
Also, give us some more information. Size of your compressor and the CFM output, the spray gun you used, tip size and settings, as all of this will help.
Single stage needs to sprayed so it flows out and lays down, to me I would say you have a lot of orange peel, since sanding didn't remove it.

Thats what i was thinking also, its more of a rough egg shell look than orange peel. My compressor is a Dewalt 3.5hp, 13.4 SCFM at 40 PSI and 11.5 SCFM at 90 PSI. Im using a Iwata Kawami 4 with a 1.4 tip. Fluid turned in from wide open about a turn and a half. Fan is maybe a turn in from wide open. Pressure at the gun is 29 psi per their instructions. I mixed the Matte 6:1 with Spi's medium activator. I sprayed a medium wet coat 1st, and heavier coat for the 2nd. But as you can guess, im a beginner so‍♂️

Many of the compressor ratings are over exaggerated in my opinion.
I have 6.5 hp two stage with an 80 gallon tank. The pump CFM rating is 18.9 and it puts out 15.6 SCFM @ 100 PSI
Yours is 3 hp smaller and rated only 4 SCFM less??

To me, it doesn't look like orange peel but that the gun was sputtering and has laid down a very rough texture, much like if you're trying to shoot something that's too thick or you're getting an air blockage at the gun somewhere. Did you notice it sputtering or laying down in chunks as you were spraying? If so, you need to stop and figure out why. Maybe reduce more, or check if the gun has a blockage, whether it be the vent hole in the cap is plugged, or the gun is dirty somewhere inside blocking the fluid path, or you still have the cup strainer installed.

I didnt notice any sputtering at all but yea i agree. You nailed it on describing what the textire is. I dont use the internal little plastic filter, im also using the 3m PPS system, i also cut out the screen on the lid.

Here's a calculator that I've used to check to see if my compressor was close to advertised cfm, maybe someone might find interesting;

Also curious if your compressor ran continuously while you were spraying. Or was it cycling on and off.

Don
It does cycle while shooting. When it kicks on, i tried to wait a second for it to build a little.

I spray with about the same size compressor and I do not get issues, so it doesn't seem likely that it's your compressor.

Yea cause i shot the jambs with this same setup and its was fine. I dont really know but i feel like i need to open up the fluid control some?
