LPH400 Question/advise

S

Sangs Sierra

I just bought an Iwata LPH400 1.4 with the silver cap which I will be using for SPI uni clear.
My question is should I invest in a 1.3 nozzle for my basecoat or will the 1.4 be ok?
My current project I am spraying House of Kolor Sunset pearl with SPI clear.

Thanks,
Mike

Bob, is right! I can't tell you how many times I have sprayed a metallic with the 1.4 and silver cap and afterwards remember, I did not use the purple cap.
The gun is that good.

Thanks for the replies! good news, I was worried the 1.4 would be too big for base.
I will shoot a test panel before the truck but good to get expert advice.

Thanks again!
Mike

Just play with the fluid adjustment and you will be fine, depending on brand and color, I'm around two turns out.

Something you may want to try on your test shoot-Turn your air pressure down some for shooting a pearl or metalic with that silver cap-16ish with the trigger pulled is plenty for basecoat and adjust your fluid and pattern to get good even distribution on your test pass. Start at 2 turns out on the fluid and turn it out till it's too heavy and blotchy then back in till the sweet spot is found. If you can handle more material transfer with good control turn everything out some more, but too much air with the silver cap will over atomize a pearl or metalic and you'll be fighting yourself with blotching and tiger stripes.

Thanks again guys!
Bob, I will start off just like that and play with it. hope to try it out this weekend.

Gun worked great, Thanks again for the advice!
18psi @ 2.5 turns out for color, 27psi 3 turns out for uni clear. Love this gun. DSCN0178[1].jpg

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I will be spraying SPI black base and SPI universal clear through the same gun. I am hoping to spray in 2H April down in Houston, so weather should be good.

Any advice on gun set up aside from what has been posted in this thread already?

Thanks!

Keep your pressure at the wall (or tank) regulator at 120psi and adjust the pressure at the guns regulator. The pressure at the gun is not set in stone as each gun can require differant pressures.
