LPH400 - First paint gun

Amateur hour here:
I just shot some epoxy primer with the 3M Accu Spray gun. Laid down well, and the cleanup is easy.

About the 3m Acuspray 'gun', imo it's more the Oddity of It.
Not your 'average bear' piece of equipment and more replacement parts which are not metallic and 'formed' with a possibility of being out of spec, etc.
Just something 'different not necessarily 'bad.

Imo,it's more the Products that we are Using Now than the Gun that's an issue.....
SPI excluded of course ;)

The Accuspray did have issues. The new Performance gun is far superior. It's an HVLP, so, it does need more CFM behind it.

I have used the LPH400 Silver 1.4 for everything except build primer and polyester primer.

Painted a number of vehicles (for a garage hack) and posted pictures of the projects and the final results. I do this so other can see what not to do as well as what to do.

I recently purchased an Iwata Air Gunsa AZ3 with a 2.0 tip for the build and polyester primers.

Yes I want to replace my SATA gun with that LPH400. But they have so many options with 400 in the name it gets confusing about which one to get?
.

Only ONE LPH-400 LV.
The other 'numbers' following 400 are the nozzle set,134-1.3,144-1.4,184-1.8
The last 'letter' is the air cap designation. Lv(4)-Silver cap,Lvb-Purple cap,Lvx-Orange cap.
Some have 5 thousand numbers which is the actual Iwata part number specific to what's in the box and more confusing than anything.
ALL Official Iwata "GUNS" have a hologram on the box so look for this if It's purchased NIB...
Anything you want to know.

Yeah there’s only one LPH and you can get it with 3 different caps. Silver was the original. Then they came out with orange and purple. Orange and purple are suppose to help more with metallic base coats. I personally would choose orange as a “everything” gun. Others will tell you silver. I find orange sprays base and clear great. And of course you can get all of them in many tip sizes. 1.3 and 1.4 is most common. If your using for spi clear you’ll want a 1.4.

I have orange silver and purple. I honestly notice no difference between 1.3 orange and 1.4 silver. Although I still use orange for solid base and silver for clear only.. the purple has a wider fan because the air cap has 2 more holes on it. So that's what I use for metallics

seems like a good price? Only 1 left

Thanks for the tip. I ended up picking this up as it seemed like a good price versus some of the Ebay deals from unknown sellers. Also got my SPI Epoxy ordered.

Any tips on a good regulator to use?

I have a decent air drying system on my compressor that I use for plasma cutting. Should be could enough for now but I will at some improvements when I get to the actual body paint.

What else do I need?

I use the Iwata regulator. It works good for me but I'm sure there are better ones out there

Something like this on the wall: https://www.amazon.com/Regulator-Co...ocphy=9029984&hvtargid=pla-302114065104&psc=1

My air travels through about 20' of copper piping, then through a Motor Guard filter before entering the air dryer. From there it travels another 15' of copper to the booth and then into an Air Regulator/Water Separator unit similar to the above. From there it goes through one more filter before the hose leading to my spray gun. Oh, and there are 2 drops to catch and drain any condensation. Might be a bit of overkill but it is what it is.

I have a detachable regulator that I use at the gun just long enough to set the PSI at the wall. Then I remove it.
