Kate's Hudson

Sorry, I should have been more clean about my meaning. It seems to me that when I hear about a Hudson, its usually a Hudson Hornet being discussed, so I was surprised that the Hornet only lasted 4 years, but yes the Hudson Motor Company was in business for many more years.

Didn't take off? They made good cars for 50 years. For whatever reason a lot of makers were dying off in that era.

Surely be a sin to see a cookie cutter 350 in there. Those air cleaners just have character.

Chad, you guys ever go to the Hudson museum in Shipsy? The man that donated the cars to the City is a great old timer that was a converted Amish farmer. We were there with the Auburn/Cord/Duesenberg club a few years ago, my wife and I missed the luncheon because he was telling us stories of the cars.

50years!! Didn't realize they were at it that long.. And no haven't been to the museum, it's really not that far, will definitely be worth a trip. I'm sure kate will be up for that!!

It's keeping the same motor. We had a few discussions with V8's but she's keeping the original motor.. Good choice I think!!

I have a soft spot for hopped-up inline sixes. One of my first cars was a 56 Chevy 210 with a 235ci 6. In 1963 I rebuilt the engine and while I was at it, installed higher compression pistons, a no-name solid lifter cam and a dual 2-barrel manifold with a pair of Ford 94 carburetors. In a 1/8-mile drag race, my 6 was no match for the 409 Chevies or 413 Chryslers but it would blow the doors off most small-block V8's. The Hudson 6 is 308 cubic inches so it is 70+ cubic inches bigger than my old 6. In a short run, that Hudson will beat (and shock) 90% of the cars on the road today.

I bought the Edmunds Custom manifold and carbs for $35 and I thought it was unique. The car and engine are long gone but I kept the intake setup for 46 years. The two thousandth time my wife suggested I throw it out, I cleaned it up a little and sold in 2009 for $600.

With a split exhaust manifold, it sounded a lot like this one.

man that is a sweet intake set-up.. I keep telling her I would like to upgrade that a bit.. I sent clifford performance a email to see what all he makes for these..

I have really started liking the inline 6's,, not sure if you noticed or not but i'm putting a slant 6 in my 37 truck i'm building.. I need to get back at that thing..

yea, we are amazed at how solid it's looking..
I'm not sure she realizes how lucky she is in that aspect.. Or me.. lol.. could have been a lot of metal work. Next step is to finish interior removal but once that's done and mechanically stripped it's ready for blast and hopefully paint right after.. Not use to them going this quick.. Everything we get in here seems to be rotted out.

Great project! And I think we need a pic of Kate next to her car, to put a face to the voice we hear when we order paint ;)

Wow is right.. You never really know what a car will go for.. I would have guessed half of that.
Don't get any ideas Chad! You are NOT selling my car! LOL

Can't wait to see the progression on this one. Glad to here you are keeping the original heart plant.

Are you keeping the body stock?
Your not doing a chop job are you? :(

Without a chop you can end up with something like this....

...or chop it and end up with something like this...

To me the one without chop looks very classic and sleek already.

The chop one just doesn't look right.

I think the stock Hudson profile looks an awful lot like Wally Welch's chopped Mercury done by the Ayala Brothers.

A chopped 54 Hudson is like high-heeled sneakers. It can be done but that don't mean it looks good.

Yes, I am leaving the body stock. Don't worry, no chop jobs here!

Only way they look right chopped is with very minimal chop..
