Just recieved my order

I just recieved my order of epoxy and 2k high build primer. I'm working on the truck bed at this moment getting all the panels flat. My plan:
- sand the complete bed with 80 grit
- wipe it all down with the waterborne wax & grease remover
- the next day run a tac cloth over it
- spray 2 coats of black epoxy, waiting 30 min between coats
- after the last coat of epoxy wait 60 min and then spray a coat of grey high build, wait 15 min, spray a second coat. Should I spray a third?
- after the last coat of high build, wait 30-45 min and spray a mist coat of reduced or straight black epoxy (for a guide coat).
- the next day or so start block sanding off the black epoxy guide coat.

Its going to be a few months before I base coat/clear coat, what should I spray last for this sitting period, leave it at the final sanding of the high build or should I spray it with some more epoxy. It will be sitting in the garage.

your procedure is ok except i would wait longer on the epoxy before i put the high build on. your doing 2 coat of epoxy which is fine but that leaves youwith a fairly thick coat of product that is uncured then your putting a quick falshing and curing product over it. the epoxy will soak up the solvents of the 2k rewetting it. this is really no good. let the epoxy set up overnight before you spray your 2k.

Since it'll be kept clean in a garage I'd leave it in 2K then before paint
I'd scuff it real good with a gray scuff pad and wash down to get it clean,
then a sealer coat of epoxy right before paint.
That'll give better adhesion being over fresh epoxy. :)

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm in no hurry so I'll take everyone's advice and wait 24 hours before spraying the high build. How well does an unreduced mist coat of epoxy sand?

It sands better than most out there.
After the 1st day I usually sand it wet, after 2 days it sands good even dry

Did you mean as a guide coat? If yes, not as good as a well reduced guide coat. I like over reduced base (left overs) the best for a guide coat and I just put enough on for a fine speckle (mist). You could over reduce the epoxy also.
A full coat/s of SPI epoxy sands very well as JC stated.

I talked to Barry this afternoon and he recommended to use a cheap rattle can of primer. He said that would be cheaper and alot better for my experience at this (newbie) because of the epoxy being harder when dried than the high build I might run into some trouble while sanding. I'll go this route. Thanks for everyone's replies

The cheap rattle can primer works real well,
try to get one that says "sandable" on it, they do much better
than some of the others.

I like the 3M dry powder guide coat. Have head better luck with it than spray types. Wipe on, sand off, lol.

I talked to a friend and he has some 3m dry guide coat, so I'm going to do a little of each and see whats easiest for me.
