It's been a year

As the title says, it's been a year that I placed my first order for some SPI. Back then I was using PPG, and trying different brands for everyday work. Whatever I tried that was cheaper than PPG, was mostly terrible. I was hating my job, I hate looking at a finished job that i'm not happy with, even if the customers don't seem to see what I see. I wasted so much time buffing, it wasn't funny. Luckily that work held up good.

I was constantly looking on the internet for different brands. No one in my local area carried SPI, but every time SPI popped up on the net, the comments where very good, but I have a hard time relying on that, some people use off brands and praise them. For sure out of the gun, any job can look 10 points. Looking at SPI's price list, I was a little worried, since a kit of Euro was almost the same price as the local guys cheap clear kits, and the Universal was still cheaper than the big brands. I was thinking you get what you pay for, so I hesitated.

The last job before I pulled the trigger was a full respray. It died back, that's when I said it was enough. I ordered a kit of Universal clear, didn't know what to expect. Mostly all clears on the market claim, high solids, super nice gloss, great DOI..... First job I sprayed with it was a Escalade hood, sprayed it with my Sata 1.3RP (didn't have a 1.4), and I was sold. I remember when I finished spraying it going back in the booth, and seeing flow out, it was amazing! I started ordering different products afterwards and all worked very good. I have seen the Cadillac months later, and it still looked very nice.

Currently I use everything SPI, except for the base coats. Customers are happy and come back to see me. I saved a lot of time buffing, materials don't cost as much as the big brands and perform just as good if not better. Mr. Kennedy ships the products fast (I'm in Canada), I get them the next day most of the time. So for those reading this that are hesitating to try, and believe that only the big brands have good stuff, don't wait as I did and try it.

Yesterday, one of my customers came by to drop off motorcycle parts for paint. Having repainted a hood for him this summer, he was telling me my clear was better than the dealer's where I used to work with him. We used the high end PPG stuff. He was telling me the first time the hood was painted there, he got a bird dropping on his hood, and it stained immediately. When I redid his hood this summer, I used SPI Euro 2.1, and he got a bird dropping again, but this time, it didn't stain. Small things like this keep the people coming back. It pays in the long run to use good stuff.

Funny I was thinking similiar thoughts today. Prior to switching to SPI I was using another company's "Euro" clear. It sprayed decent but always died back. on the rare instance it didn't die back you could count on it dying over time. That and shrinkage. I drove myself crazy trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. When I first shot some SPI (I use production and Euro 2020) I could see the difference right away. Night and Day. Now for me die back is a thing of the past, I love how both of those clears shoot. The gloss level is outstanding. Every product I've tried from SPI has been excellent. I am big fan of the regular build primer. Dries quick and builds nice, perfect for Insurance type work. The Urethane Sealer is outstanding as well. I'll be a customer for as long as I'm in this line of work. Thank you Barry for your passion and dedication.
