isocyanates

Are isocyanates still being released from the paint after its been applied to the panel? How about after it flashes? Taking it a step further, after spraying paint on a panel/car and exhausting the room of the fog with a couple air changes and I go back in the booth an hour or two later, will more iso's have been released from the drying/curing paint that's on the car? Does "paint smell" automatically mean breathing in iso's?

Do all paint products from SPI have isocyanates in them?

all urethanes have iso. even windshield or any urethane adhesive in a caulking tube has iso. iso can be a gas or a solid but from what i know, in the paint industry iso is a solid so once the overspray is gone so is the iso.

Do you work for the EPA???

I can't answer you question properly or in depth but can tell you that any fumes coming from any paint is not really good for you. A lot of what you smell after it flashes are the solvents being released. You can still smell them after a day or two and you sand for buffing by doing that you opened the surface and allowed for more to come out. What else is in the fumes I don't really know but in between coats or shortly after I'm done I still wear a respirator while doing a walk around, the fumes now give me heartburn after years of doing this work.

What is causing you the heartburn is the solvents, Iso's have no smell to them and Jim is right on as Iso's are heavy er than air.

it will all kill your ass , if you dont think so i have a nice scar to show you ! treat it all the same and run away screaming like a girl from it . if i walk into my booth the fan is on. it pulls down under the bench so if i'm cleaning a gun it pulls the fumes away .
