I stained my bed wood with Speedball Black India Ink. I got to thinking about it tonight and was wondering if I can put Universal over this. It is from what I can tell a water based ink that contains shellac. I did some searching and didnt really find much about going over something like it with Universal. I see guys talking about going over it with polyurethane without issue, but Im sure thats the wood working polyurethane.
I thought about putting a coat of intercoat clear in between the ink and the Universal, will that make a difference? I will probably do a test piece first, just looking to see if anyone else has any experience with something like this before I even do a test.
