If he had used cheaper paint, he could have afforded upgraded brakes

it's called an emergency brake for a reason . my years of racing taught me first kill the engine, pull the laundry or ebrake then drive the car. i would have threaded it between the black suv and the white car to the left. way less damage .

Good point. The car owner knew he had a two problems before the accident....

1. Throttle sticking
2. The smell of burning brake pads.

Exactly........I heard the mimi van owner after seeing the video is taking him to court for negligence. Before driving the car, he knew the throttle was sticking and would ride the brakes when driving it. The driver and passanger where both foolish for only using the lap belt with an installed five point harness. The passanger lost all his teeth when his face made contact with the dash, denting it.

I remember me and the wife were riding in a 63 I had down the highway. Just cruising 55 and I went to switch lanes to exit and tapped the brakes. And it felt off. Tapped again and went to the floor. We live out middle of no where so there was no cars around. Turned the car off and kept foot on pedal. Eventually the car came to a stop. It was a single reservoir master cylinder and the brake line from the front to the back had developed a pinhole leak. No e brake. Since this incident every car I build gets all new brake lines and a functional e brake. And I'll never run a single reservoir master cylinder again. Could had ended much much worse.

had he drove the car he would be replacing a couple of fenders . it's like riding a harley . shit goes wrong i start looking for a 2ft hole. but with a sticking throttle it would never come out of the trailer. several bad decisions made there.

100% agree, I mean yeah during a build I am sure everyone has done a questionable drive around the block. But this was, from what I can tell, a COMPLETE car. Why in the world would you be out driving it with sketchy brakes AND a sticky throttle with a 1300HP engine. Makes me wonder what else was lurking under that shiny paint...

Yep, that car should have never made it to the street. The driver knew it had problems and continued. I can see the worry in the passengers face when he said he was riding the brakes. He put this YouTube video production over everyone's safety. He deserves to be sued and should never be allowed to build cars again. He should have pulled over and called for a rollback.

The brakes were fine, its the part where he was riding the brakes to keep the speed down for so long that overheated them and caused them to fade. He could've used the throttle to pitch the car sideways to scrub off speed, or at minimum cut the engine off.

I don't enjoy watching stuff like that. He panicked, happens.
Looked like he shifted into 3rd not 1st.
If auto, i remind myself that's what reverse is for. Never tried grabbing reverse with stick.
Shine's answer works.

a blowed up trans is way cheaper.

Agreed.

Back in 2002 on a rainy day, I was driving home from work thru a twisty corner canyon. As I approached another twisty corner, I saw a car coming the opposite direction way to fast. I knew he was going to lose control and slide into my lane.

In a split second decision, I tapped my brakes slowing me down. I could have excellerated and he would have missed me but, knowing there was a woman in her compact car behind me, I made the choice to have him hit my Ford 4x4 Dually. In that split second decision, all I could see was that woman behind me being hit and pushed off the cliff.

The driver who lost control and slide into my lane centered punched the drivers side rear wheel, with so much force, it dislodged the axle housing and bent the drive shaft.

If I had to do it over again, I'd do the same thing.

All these years of building cars doing a test drive, or just driving mine, the brakes going out have always been on my mind.
Im down now to the 57 bird, and this video bothered me so much; im double checking myself set up an appointment with one of the best to look it over and make any changes to the 4-wheel discs I did years ago.
Soonest he can get me in is the 22nd of August, and it will not be driven till then.
