I want to create the "Best Sanding Blocks Ever"

Hey Dean, I have received my blocks. I'm very impressed with them. Thank you for all the effort that went into them. It will probably be later in the summer before I get a chance to use them, but I'm looking forward to trying them out.

Thanks, Russ

a slightly uneven surface on a block wont affect anything other than uneven clogging of the sandpaper. if you think a couple thousandths is alot, try taking some readings of a durablock. those things are all over the place. those can be out 1/16" or more. with that said, i like to true my blocks. i toss some 180 grit psa paper on a flat surface like my tablesaw top then just run the block on that to get the surface flat.

Dean, I want to thank you for what seems like a really nice product, but with the weather conditions around here I don't think I'll be able to use them for sometime. I do like the weight and feel of them, and i'm looking forward to leaving you some feedback when I do.
Thanks Again for the great price too!

Hi Dean
Going to be a while before I benefit from using the blocks. But I can tell from just handling them and experimenting with the rods they are far superior to anything else I currently have. Some long boards I have are the old wood handle style with the clip clamps. I like the grip on yours better.

As inexperienced at blocking that I am, I did get to use the blocks for a few hours.
Not being able to compare to other blocks out there I will say that the Black Diamond blocks worked very well and the fit to my hand was very comfortable.
The long block is heavy on the horizontal surfaces but I was able to finish what I started. I was actually wanting to block some more but the time caught up to me.
All in all I think they are great blocks. Thanks Dean and Black Diamond blocks

I have been using them for a couple of days now, block sanding my GTX body.

The more I use them, the more I like them, especially the ability to adjust the flexibility. I find the weight of the blocks very beneficial as well as the rubber being easy to grip and maintain control.

It seems that you begin to develop a feel for when to remove the rods and allow the block to conform to the panel. Bowed areas on my quarter panels and rounded edges on the roof and sail panels are examples where this was necessary.

The long block actually helped me find two places that needed a little more work.

So I have been seeing these blocks popping up in several places. 1. a good buddy of mine and very talented painter sent me a text with a picture of them. "Just got these", then I immediately felt like shit for forgetting to tell him about the pre-sale deal. Then yesterday I watched a video and "My Friend Pete" was using them on his youtube channel.

Nice to see them making their rounds!

As you guys know, I worked on these for over a year, and I did my best to make them awesome.
So the positive feedback on them is incredibly rewarding.
A huge thank you to this group for your support and encouragement!

I've been following "My Friend Pete" for a few years. Highly entertaining and some good information too.
He let me know that the video was posted, and that a dedicated review will be up this weekend.
In the video he called Black Diamond "the Lamborghini of sanding blocks." Wow!

Here is a link to the video, key moment is: 21:50 to 25:50

I enjoy his content in medium doses now., but have been subscribed for years to his channel(s). The yelling gets to me after awhile, but I understand his frustrations whole heartedly. With that being said, he is a hard working MF'r and nobody can ever take that from him.

I love that he still uses his Binks #7 and people constantly give him crap about it, but he takes it in stride.

I saw that recent video where he talks about the Binks #7, that he bought in his teens and still uses.
He was also proud that it had 27 colors of paint all over the outside "it's a working gun, it gets used, it is spotless inside and that's all that matters."
I can neither confirm nor deny whether my paint guns look like that :D

I've watched some of his videos. Though accomplished at what he does, he doesn't know it all, or refuses to see what modern technology has brought to the table. I watched one video where he went on a lunatic rant about epoxy. How epoxy isn't meant to be sanded, and how lousy it sands. Obviously he has heard or tried SPI epoxy.

I was surprised to see the video about Black Diamond blocks. I watched it a day or 2two ago.

Honestly, if you get a good review out of that guy you are doing something good. He is extremely critical with his opinion on tools and expensive ones at that. So good job Dean!
We started talking last year and I knew he was going to be doing the review. But, I had no idea how it would go. Was on pins and needles to be honest because he either loves it or hates it and has a pretty big audience.
Whew! Couldn't ask for a more positive endorsement.
My wife watched and asked "how much did you pay that guy?"
ZERO!!!
