Harbor Freight Black Widow

I am by no means a HF snob, 90% of my tools are from there. Their stuff is getting better, but also more expensive. The convenience for me is the that there is a store .1 miles from my house and open on the weekends.

I have bought sand paper from there in a pinch. It was shit, but it got the job done on a Sunday night!

Tool boxes from HF have quadrupled in price recently

They sure have. I'm glad I bought mine before the price increase. Here's mine I modified. They didn't delete these pictures from their website.

Tommy give me a little time and I'll try to come up with some recommendations. What is your price range?

I’m bumping this thread because this gun (Black Widow) is on sale for a few more days for $150.

I’m considering picking it up specifically because it’s an HTE (like an RP) gun as opposed to HVLP and would like to try out that difference. See a lot of comments that it lays out clear slicker.

My only concern was how well a 1.3 tip would spray SS. The Wanda PU SS I’ve been spraying on a project says 1.4-1.6 in the TDS.

The other concern is I’m panel painting a solid red. Not sure if it would be wise to switch up the gun halfway through the job in case it could somehow have an effect on color.

Man, Lizer I wouldn't waste my money. Unless you are in a bind I just think that these guns are a waste. You do enough painting that having a good gun should be paramount. These cheap guns add up and after a few you end up spending as much or more than what a good high quality gun would cost.

Not telling you what to do, just sharing my opinion.

I noticed how harbor freights lineup and pricing has changed in the last few years. Looking into their Icon socket & rachets lineup, as I've heard somebuddy say it's supposedly the old snap on lineup. Definitely not low priced though. Use their step bits & countersinks. They have been busted in loosing lawsuits for selling same floor jacks , etc as Snap-On, with a different paintjob for the hf price range. By that, it is always worth considering some of their better stuff now than name brands are becoming overpriced overseas made products.
Now spray guns, other than backup/throw away use, It would take some convincing from people I know for me to ever get another one.

Now here's something low priced to consider. I do the occasional pawn shop quick walk throughs looking for the random they don't know what they got deals. Saw a Titan Capspray 115 turbine unit with canister gun for $400. Well over a grand years ago for these new, approx $400 for a gravity feed gun now, and whatever$ for other tips. While I have yet to try with paint or clear yet (would rather an automotive grade gun), I will say a modern 6 stage turbine unit like mine I purchased for waterborne paint at work did awesome for epoxy, thick g-2 primer, & 2k primer for me. You can plug in to 110 anywhere and don't need driers or oil coalescing filters like with an air compressor. Heated air is still a complaint for professionals doing more than small parts, but you can be smarter than the average idiot & place the turbine unit near an ac unit to cool down the air temps as I've done. Also, can use a longer hose to drop gun air temps. Again, I haven't tested with actual automotive paints or clears, but if you can get a high-end unit for cheap, I'd put it above any China crap pneumatic spray guns. Not referring to cheaper turbine units, would not consider.
Just a thought, from verified experience.

I have followed the HF/Snap-on jack law suit for a long time and since neither party ever released any public info it's still a bit of a mystery?
The fact is HF still sells the exact same jack that caused the lawsuit so what was the outcome??

The story was Snap-On was getting the jack made in China and apparently the factory decided to add additional production and sold them to HF among other retailers out the back door so to speak. But that's just a rumor I read so we don't know.

Here is a comparison and they sure look similar. But not exact either?

I have to update this. I got really bored tonight and had to clear some parts so I thought I would figure out wtf is wrong with vevor Amazon gun I bought. Sure enough there was a plastic seal missing. Got it fixed and decided to use it on these parts. My god does it smash through the euro clear. Lol. I'm kinda blown away.

It gets a ton of great reviews. Where did you get the seal?

I'm an idiot honestly. The gun came with a 1.7 and a 1.3. When I initially tried the gun out I tried it with the 1.7 and didn't swap the seal on the back of the fluid tip. 1000% my fault

5 heavy ass coats of euro.

Really nice! I have the original. Not the SATA knockoff. For $80 it's worth trying the new version.

An idiot???......... not buying it. You made a mistake, an accident. A real man owns his mistake which you did by calling yourself an idiot. Which makes you genuine, real......someone I can respect.

With that said, make that mistake again and I'll take the spray gun away :p

It's definitely a cheap "feeling" gun, but if I were going to recommend something to someone who only planned on painting something once and not as a profession its a solid purchase IMO.

I got the 1.3,1.4 and 1.8. I'm curious how it works with my small compressor. My LPH 400 does fine. It's only $80. Dinner out usually is more than that.

Hard to complain for $80. Even if it just turned out to be a primer gun. But sounds like it’s capable of even more.

I would not buy anything that requires accurate machining tolerances for Horrible Freight.
Made that mistake once and the shipping to return it was more than the refund I would get back, so it ended up in the trash. Besides, I don't like sending money to China.
