Last fall I screwed up big time mixing my UC. First coat (maybe 2) I mixed 1:1. Then had a senior moment and mixed 1:4 and sprayed 2 coats. Berry told me to sand off the clear to the base coat. Winter came and it became to cold to paint in my makeshift booth. In fact after a cold night the day warmed up and I started to spray CC over a large battery cover. I then noticed water drops on the cover. The water was coming from the hose laying on the cold concrete floor. So finished paint till warm weather and getting myself straighten out with the Doctors.

1. Can I try to sand off the top two coats of UC then spray the correct mix of clear coat over the two bottom coats? Or sand to base and wonder if it might comes up blokish?

2. I need to touch up a door that I clear coated from last fall. The top curved of the fender came out too light with the clear coat and needs respray. Do I need to sand to put on another coat or two of Clear coat....And with what grit ?

The body is what I need to take care of screw up on CC mix. The body had it's cover off for a month so there is dirt and dust on it. Suggestions on what o clean he body with?

John

1. How will you know when you are down to the good clear?

2. You need to sand before applying more clear. 600 or 800 would be my choice.

I agree with Don. I would sand with 800 until the surface is dull. In hard to reach areas you can use a Grey Scotchbrite pad.
Once sanded, clean with Wax and Grease remover making sure to wipe it off with a clean shop towel before it dries.
Mix your clear and shoot 2-3 more coats if you plan to cut and buff.

Would you suggest using water with the 800 grit or dry sand?

So I sand till Finnish is dull. Clean surface with 710-1, then spray clear coat. When done will the finish come out a different shade then my other parts that are good to go? I did manage to sand through to the sealer under the base coat in a couple of areas. Can you explain to me what steps I have to take to cover these bare spots? First time time doing a paint job also due to medical my mind goes blank sometimes. Shame about the screw up I can't believe how good it turned out. I cry with every stroke of my sandpaper against the clear coat.

Very lightly dust in a little base on the sand through. Very very light coats or it will wrinkle on you. I cannot emphasize this enough. Don’t ask me how I know….

Or you could seal the sand throughs with a little epoxy and then apply your base blend. Your base does not look metallic.

The color will not be affected by sanding and flow coating your clear.
