Getting orange peel with Iwata LPH400 and SPI UV clear

I am getting some peel with LPH400 lv 1.4 and UV clear. I know that orange peel is adjusted with fluid control. Do i want to lessen the fluid or open it up more? Also am I maybe moving too slowly? This is the first time I am using the LPH 400. I used to put down super flat paint with my devilbiss plus. I am spraying my lph400 at 25 psi or so.

thanks

Turn the fluid knob in and shoot at 4-5" from the panel surface, adjust your speed for a slick coat. 2.5 turns out on the fluid knob is a good starting point-fine tune from there.

I use an lph400 with universal quite often… Make SURE you are close to the panel!!!! take a piece of paint stick 4 inches long and tape it to the gun….practice putting the gun up to different places around the car, you may think you are close but most people trying to spray 4 inches away are more like 6-7 in the "heat of the moment" laying clear down. the difference between 4 and 6 is huge with this gun.

Also, make sure wall regulator is 120 or higher and the higher the better.
This has nothing to do with the 10-35 lbs you want at the gun but very important to avoid peel, runs and solvent pop.

Barry, I may have a problem with that setting on my setup. I have an IR compressor that cuts in at 90, and off at 135. I do have an RTI regulator and gauge at the gun. Once the compressor comes on it builds quickly.

CFM = volume of air
PSI = pressure
Make sure you compressor puts out enough volume (CFM) to more than handle your gun. If not the gun will not atomize the paint properly.

I just did some painting with the regulator down at the wall and you are right, the gun surely didn't like it.. Sprays better turned up.. I agree..
