Forgot to catalyze epoxy primer! What to do?

Been about an hour and it looks like its slowly flashing but still gummy ugh. Is it possible to spray hardener over it? Or am I gonna have to strip it with a rag and acetone or MEK? Anything lost if I wait until the morning? Such a bonehead move.

Also I shot some catalyzed epoxy prior on some pieces then later topped of my gun with the uncatalyzed epoxy, guessing I'll know what was catalyzed in the morning? Fingernail check?

It will skim but never harden and you cannot
Put more epoxy over it.
No other choices but to wash off, lacquer thinner, mek, acetone or urethane reducer.

At least you're only dealing withe epoxy, I did this 2 weeks ago with U.C. mixed with reducer instead of activator. As Barry advised me, get a pack of rags and reducer and start wiping. Change the rag often, otherwise you're just smearing the stuff you're trying to take off. It sucks, but no other choice. I melted down through the U.C and basecoat in some places so had to reblock, seal, basecoat and clearcoat the whole body again. 28 hrs of work later I was back where I started.:lemo:

Since they're small pieces would it be better to soak them? The epoxy isn't coming off real easy ugh.

Also since I had catalyzed epoxy in my gun for the first coat then topped off with uncatalyzed epoxy its a little hard to tell where the stopping point is on my pieces (over 200 ugh). Is there anything to be gained by waiting another day or two or am I making more work for myself? I know solvent will take off catalyzed epoxy in that first few days is why I ask.

Red Scotchbriting now to open up things in hope that the catalyzed base layer kicks the last coat. I'm getting nothing but dust is it possible the base kicked the last coat? Seems like it should be gummy.

Would work great.

About 100 pieces in Barry and still got nothing but dust and no gum. Is it possible the first coat kicked the second?

Man I feel for ya. That is not going to be fun at all don't second guess anything do what you can to remove it, one part not done proper can and will give you fits later.

No but.. u said u added to mix? On second coat.
First coat may have kicked where solvent won't touch and if added you might be just 25 to 50% under and it will still kick, if case wipe what you can off let set reat of day, sand with 320 and spray another coat.
Epoxys cure different then say clears or primers.
Call me if need me.

Thanks Barry.. Its feeling like its curing out. I've got about 150 pieces scuffed. Thought I'd wait an extra day and see if the epoxy will pull up with mek. Guessing that should be a good indicator as to it curing out or not. Right now I can just barely put a fingernail in if I press hard. Second coat was medium heavy.

It's definitely good to develop & stick by certain work habits of how you lay out your materials when working to help you know what you just poured . So far I,ve never sprayed anything un or over catalyzed or mixed, but I have thrown out several cups of mix that had doubt on what I did. If in doubt throw it out.

I have had fiberglass resin long time ago that a top layer wouldn't harden fast enough over another layer & it can be cleaned up, so I'd have confidence that if you wipe the top layer till it quits coming off & let it dry, you should be good to scuff & reshoot.
