First paint job guidance

I'm about to paint my van which is my first paint job.

Equipment
40 husky air compressor
R500
Linear blocks

Product
White epoxy
White SS

Currently the van is about 85% done in white epoxy.. My process was to shoot it then sand with 220 to find the lows. I filled the lows with evercoat rage, then shoot again. I didnt do 2k because my van is my DD, so I needed it to be weather tight. Finally getting to the point I am now.. No dents and coated.

I called the guys at SPI and with their guidance am going with SS over base and clear.

The road map to the SS I hoped for help.

Previous I was sanding the epoxy with 220, should I go to 400 before I paint the SS? I have been shooting the epoxy with 1.7, but understand I should use a 1.4 or 1.5 for the SS? Is there a difference in psi for the SS, epoxy seems to lay good at 24to22psi. After I lay down the SS I understand I can blade it with 800 to get it dialed in.. Do you do a x pattern or straight up and down? I don't have a air compressor with enough cfm so I plan to block by hand like I have done with the linear blocks. After the SS is good, what compound should I wax with?

Thanks for the help

320 before single stage imo. Four coats.

For a DD I would not be “blading” it with 800 on a vehicle like a Sprinter van. I would be sending it as sprayed unless you have runs and a lot of trash.

Lots of threads on cut and buff materials. Try the search.

Thanks! It's getting painted outside so I am planning on lots of trash, plus as my paid off sprinter I really want it to look nice. Have never owned a new rig and everyone I have own having poor/embarrassing paint it would be fun to experience a nice paint job..

I've watched alot of videos that use 1000 and Mcguire cutting material/wool buffer pad... what I have not seen and don't understand why....is everyone seems to just be folding sand paper and going to town instead of using a block.

Well it went south today, with a forecast as 0 chance of rain.....after one coat of ss on 35percent of the van I got dumped on...

What do I do to move forward? Do I finish the 3 additional coats then sane or sand now... since 65 percent of the van is still in epoxy is there any consideration when picking back up with the ss?

Refer to the TDS for your SS. If it’s more than 24 hr you’ll need to sand is typical. Being outside might accelerate that. Was the paint still wet when it started raining? May want to let it sit in just sun for a day to cook out any blush.

I would sand everything and then try again.

Yes, the ss looks like the face of the moon.

You probably want to hear what a pro says. Im a front yard hack with a painting problem.

I had several encounters spraying single stage that was rained on when I painted a camper outside. In all cases there was nothing sun didn’t fix but sounds like you have fisheyes. Without seeing it, I’d start sanding it with 400-600.

If you want to make quick work of it you could buy Sunmight dry sanding film (6”) and use on a random orbit polisher. Will get a more even scratch pattern too.
