Epoxy Primer on frame parts

Can anyone either convince me either to or not to spend the time to use Epoxy Primer on frame parts on the restoration that will be painted with Seymours Stainless Steel, gold cadmium and various underbody colors on the axle, suspension parts etc.

I am waffling on spending the time (and $) in doing so. This will be my street rod that will not be a daily driver but will be driven, not a concours show car.

Never heard of that stuff, I would go by their tech sheet, if they say it sticks to raw metal and has corrosion protection, skip the epoxy.

I did a quick google search (while trying to stave off heat exhaustion:)) and it looks to be a spray can type product. Jim if it's something you care about and are putting a lot of effort into you need to epoxy the frame. Trust me down the road you'll wish you did .(SPI) Epoxy will provide far superior corrosion resistance and adhesion than any type of gimmick product like that.

Found the TDS, like I said it's a gimmick type product. http://www.seymourpaint.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/stainless_steel.pdf

Thanks Chris, I agree after reading the data sheet. This help mimic the factory look for parts of a Mopar rear end without leaving the metal natural (and vulnerable). The gold chromium will be a rattle can attempt at simulating chromium plating that was used on these cars but is now EPA unfriendly.

Jim if you want to put it over the epoxy that would be fine. May not last too long as it's lacquer based but you'll have the protection of the epoxy underneath. As for cad plating, lots of guys are going with yellow zinc in place of it. It looks very similar and doesn't come with the EPA hassle that Cad does. Check around you may be able to find someone in your area that does it. For small parts you could do it yourself. Check at, http://www.caswellplating.com/ for the kits.

Thank Chris, I have read a bit on the Caswell stuff and it is more of a chemistry experiment than I want to do. There is a place in town that does the zinc so I am looking at that too. I am also thinking of overshooting the whole caboodle with UC to protect the various finishes.
