Epoxy over used cast alloy timing cover

Hi guys,

It's been some time since I've been here or really made any progress on my car. I've been working on bits here and there and been building my engine but things have been very very slow. I've already done my engine block in epoxy and I would like to do the timing cover, Ford 428CJ, in epoxy as well.

I'm concerned about painting over the cast alloy. It's a used cover so it's had many years of oil penetrating the alloy. Am I wasting my time, will adhesion occur and will the epoxy stay?

I've tried the search function but did not have any luck.

Soak the part in 700 over night, dry let set for 4 hours and epoxy, will stick like glue, been there and done that-- this is pure over kill doing it this way.

A transmission shop's aluminum case cleaner machines works well also. They will runs parts through alongside the transmission cases.

A large ultrasonic cleaner would work nicely but they are expensive.

I've never soaked them in 700 but I'm sure it works great.

Great, that's brilliant. Thanks Barry and Brad, I'm stoked it'll work. Cheers!
