Epoxy after sand blasting

I'm in the process of sand blasting the roof on my 69 firebird project. The car had a vinyl roof on it, so the roof metal has some pitting, as well as a little bit below the rear window. I'm using a black sand product from Menards that seems to work well. My question is: How can I tell if all of the rust has been blasted out; could I apply a rust dissolver to the roof after blasting to be sure, what is the black stuff in some of the pits after blasting? I will be top coating with SPI epoxy primer.

NO on the rust dissolver, blow the metal off good when done blasting and you will see, when metal is clean.

I've had 2 project cars blasted in the last month, and working on another now, if you see a darker color in the pits, I would try to blast it out, like barry says blow it out, if it's just dust it should blow right out.

If your sand isn't getting the pits the way you like, use finer sand. Black Beauty and similar abrasives don't compare to fine sand for getting the pits 100% gray and clean.
