DIY BMW OEM wheel refurbish Vrs sending them out

Hey All,
I may be going to look at a set of used OEM Bmw 5 spoke AL wheels..The seller says no cracks, bends, curb rash ect.It will be next to impossible for me to check for bends of any sort unless i get them checked on a machine. I saw some pics, and i cannot mount them to my satisfaction in their current condition. With that being said, my favorite color is "hyper silver"...If i did buy these wheels, id like them to get re-furbished/finished in hyper silver. I can only imagine how much in materials i would have to spend to achieve that color..On top of that , the amount of time/labor; and i doubt i could get the "clear" to lay out of the gun to my satisfaction..How would you folks attack this? Also, does anyone know any wheel refurbishing companies that love/take pride in what they do?.....As of now, i am not a fan of the aftermarket/budget oriented wheels that come from China.. -Like from Tire rack etc.... Yes, budget is a factor here..Thank you

PS..My current wheels have very slight bends (3 of them) and have been re=furbished by previous owner.Wheels have already been road forced balanced and still get high speed vibrations at about 68mph +.....Im 99.5% the wheels are the issue...Rest of the car is very fine and has been checked and gone through

It's up to you but after many years the answer is powder coat.
Wheels just get too much abuse and any paint will not hold up.
I have wanted to set up a home powder coat booth but just did not have enough use to justify the space and expense.

Now if money is the main concern because it was with me yes paint them and just plan on redoing them from time to time.
Every town I have lived in has one or more shops redoing wheels. So you should have no problem at least talking to someone about costs.
Might not be that high?

Ahh, thanks. I had forgotten about powder coating!..I know Guys that both Love and Hate powder coating. I myself do no have much experience/knowledge with PC..There is a local Guy that does PC and ill have a visit with him..Thanks!

The biggest reason I use it is for longevity.
I have not found anything that holds up better.

Now I did learn that chroming alloy wheels is a losing proposition! The alloy and chrome have different expansion rates and eventually the chrome will come off. Plus powder coating has improved and they have some surprising stuff that while not chrome is fairly close.

Of course you may not want chrome either?

Chrome is out!!!..Looking for a hyper silver color as show above in the Saab wheel pic.Thank you

Yea tastes change with time!
I run satin metallic black power coat on my current rims. Not a real fan of the whole black or matte finishes but again it's personal choice.
They are subtle and don't stand out. I think with a red car they look OK.

Post a picture or two to the forum when you get them done.
Always want to see others projects!

Those black wheels look awesome with the "red"....Are they OEM coated or?..Aftermarket?..... I need more of a "pop" in wheel color for the Bmw dark metallic blue body paint...The Guy with the used BMW wheels is acting like a +d....k*, so the deal might not happen.I told him i was able to come view the wheels today, but not buy(bc i was coming in my car) he texted me back" Let me k now when you are ready to buy them"..... I tried calling him twice, left a voice mail one time, so we could have a decent convo vrs ALL texting. He replied, cant talk right now..Sadly, so many folks have changed for the worse, since Covid?..

PS..Why is the Jag on the lift?.- Detail time?.

Well thank you very much for that nice compliment! I need a picture in bright sun as the satin metallic does not dance unless it's under strong sun light. Yes my old shop had a lift and I lost that when I moved. I "hope" to install another one because it makes car work fun and easy!

The car was on the lift because I redid my red brake calipers and decals. I took the picture for a thread on my Jaguar forum we had on redoing the "Leaper" on the red calipers. How to paint them where to get the vinyl decals and all that. Putting the brakes up at that level makes it so nice to work on.

Yes they are factory Forged 20" Jaguar rims. Not many are forged from the factory due to cost. These are stock on my 2014 XJR and are or were before I changed the color? Farallon Grey was the factory color but I could never find out exactly what color that was?

I curbed a wheel pretty good and wanted to match the others but with time colors fade so the powder coat guys said even if we did find the exact right color it still would not match because of that. So he cut me a deal ($450 to redo all 4!). Said he really liked my car and could tell from the condition I was a car nut. I was visiting my Mom about 2500 miles away from where I live and did not want to get into any project like this when I was on the road. So he kind of took pity on me.
