In my quest for the deepest black I can find at a reasonable price. I have stumbled on Sherwin Williams U7281.

My google searches turned up decent reviews.

Anyway looks to reduce 1:1, can I use SPI reducer?

7281 is a toner that can be made into basecoat or single stage. It is pretty deep, but it is designed to be used with reactive reducer when used as basecoat. Some have recommended using it with regular reducer, and it might be fine, but I would rather use a basecoat designed for regular urethane reducer. People here speak highly of ProSpray, and jeremy has a post on here where he sprayed a lot of bases, and Wanda was the darkest. I would probably use Standox because I am set up for it. Not all their blacks are the deepest shade, though. I have found in various paint lines, some of the weaker blacks designed for tinting actually have a more pleasing tone. I prefer a blue-black to a brown-black.

I don't have the experience with to say how it would compare with others, but I am happy with the prospray I used on my 34 chevy. I have some pictures under the restoration section, if you haven't see them yet. Of course, I got it from Chad S.

I just looked at your thread. Very nice!!!!! I think that might be the black I am looking for, depending on the price of course.

I got the DMD 1683 (DBC) tint for $220.00 per Gallon from Car Quest. Next to the Standox black it was just as black. I was very happy with it. Maybe the Prospray is cheaper per Gallon.

I'm so wishy washy, lol

Here is my buddies mustang done in dbc9700, its pretty damn black!

Sorry i called you Chad. The DMD is what the 9700 is just a cheaper way to buy it from what they said. Maybe I'm confused...lol
And i used the SPI reducer to reduce it with. Layed down great.

I used Dupont 99k factory pak on my car. Guess I'm just being anal because it's going on a GN.

The basecoat systems that require a reactive reducer, they are usually converted enamels right?
