clearcoat to preserve patina

I've purchased a 48 studebaker 1 1/2 ton barnfind with 22000 miles. It has great patina and signage and I'm considering clearcoat with flattener to preserve it. I know they're only original once so I'm a little torn as to whether this is the best route to take and seek your opinions. How much will this change the appearance? What about surface rust? Would I be better off to just wax it and leave it alone? Any tips from your experience would be appreciated.

If I were to ever do it I would use a dead flat clear. I doubt you can get that flat with any of these products. Most people end up using scotchbrite all over the car to get some adhesion, then find layers of other colors underneath that create even more patina.

Wow, out of my league here but can give you my opinion as how I would look at it if buying.
First answer is if your keeping it, do what makes you happy.
If you going to sell it and I'm looking at it i want to see and feel what it really is.
If cleared and I'm looking to buy, the price is tanking real fast, kinda like cars for sale in a matte black, a lot of people figure you are hiding something, so they figure stripping and repaint as part of the price, seen it many times.

Barn find with 20000 miles has value.

Thank you. I am keeping it but I want to respect its heritage and preserve it without screwing it up. It was last licensed in 1958. I think I've figured out a way to keep it inside when I'm not driving it so that will help. It has plenty of patina without looking for more lol. I'll try to get my wife to add a pic - I'm not savvy enough.

I just scuffed the loose stuff off and use SPI Matte clear, looks great, and its exactly what I want, which was to preserve it as it is, dont want it to get (much) worse.
