Black Single Stage as Base?

Since I have what I think I need except for some blending solvent, is this ok for a great outcome?

I have a classic car that is base clear black (from 2006) and there is a tiny bubble coming up LR by the bumper that I need to fix. Once repaired I'll have a small panel section to paint. The black SPI single stage I have for other projects matches the car perfectly in color, so I was wondering if I can just use that as my basecoat then use my Universal Clear over that to complete the repair. Thanks.

You should be able to, although I would most definitely do a sprayout card of the SS and clear then compare. Put the same amount of coats of clear on the card as you will on the car. Then compare.
SPI black base would work as well. The SS and base are both pure black with no additional toners.
Nice car BTW.

Is there a hardline on that 1/4 where you can tape off? Or is it seamless? I would only use the blending solvent if I had no other choice. That thin edge where you use the blending solvent will eventually show. And it is not really user friendly if you haven't painted much. If you can tape it and blend the color then clear the entire taped off panel that would be preferred.

Are you thinking you will have to blend on the rear panel/bumper? I wouldn't break it exactly at the line you drew on the quarter. I would go all the way down behind the tire. If there is an actual break line as opposed to what looks like a body line at the rear that is where you would stop. Easier to show you than to try to verbalize it. Sorry for that.

Just a note, check the black next to each other outside with the sun at your back, as inside, all blacks or most look like they match.
If they used a deltron factory pack, either 9300 or 9700, it will match. Otherwise, it could be too black outside.

It is an R-M Diamont system on it now.

There is actually a panel joint/seam at the line I drew but going all the way down behind the tire is a good plan as well. Tail panel is a separate piece, seam sealed to the quarter.
