I'm starting an identical project in a few weeks. Debating on whether to chemical strip it or have the exterior of the car blasted.

I have around 12 hours so far in just sanding it with 80 grit. I only have the passenger door and rear quarter left to strip sand. I figured i will have around 15 hours in sanding it. I've chemical stripped before and i will never do it again. To much of a mess in my shop, don't get me wrong it works great, i just hate the clean up, and you still have to sand it anyways. I paint Aircraft for a living and i strip every week. I was quoted $800 to have it soda blasted and decided it was alot cheaper to do it for myself for under $75.00 just sanding it, and it had three coats of paint on most of it. Good luck

Car is stripped

Still have to do alot of masking then it's a go for the epoxy and 2K primer. Had around 15 hours in sanding it to bare metal...it had three paint jobs, which sucked.DSC_1966.jpg

If you shoot two coats of epoxy give it some time to lock up before shooting the 2K, a wet on wet application is asking for trouble.

Thanks, I was just saying what i was going to do...not do them both back to back. I plan on the epoxy and then do all the body work over the next few weeks and then apply the epoxy again over the bondo work then the next day or so apply the 2K high build. It's great to see people look out for one another here on the board. Thanks Bob

What black are you going with when you repaint?
Either Chroma base G99 or Deltron 9700 both base coat clear coat. both are around $300.00 per Gal. I would prefer PPG on this one so i can use the SPI reducer. I haven't bought it yet. I don't want to ues the cheaper brands on this overall.

You can use SPI reducer with Chroma. I have. Although it was with metallics. Actually seemed to lay better than with the basemaker.

Thanks. That's what I've heard also. Just going to use the Deltron DBC 9700.

Epoxy primer is applied, now i can do the bone work the re-apply the epoxy primer then the 2k primer in the next few weeks. I can't wait until i can shoot some of the SPI Clear.DSC_1986.jpg

Is that SPI?

Also, I gotta ask! Whats the story on the passenger mirror!!
LOL on the mirror. It's some how rapped up in the wiring harness in side the boot area. I didn't want to take the chance of ripping any wires apart so I went as far as I could without doing any damage, serves the same as it is, just going to work around it. And no the epoxy
Primer is not SPI. It's Shermin Williams 483-660 epoxy primer. We use it on aircraft. Stuff is the bomb on fighting corrosion. I will be using the 2K SPI on top of after I ďo all the bone work.

these are such cool cars, look forward to seeing it completed. Is that the stock 3.8 turbo setup?

Its such a shame to see all the other Regals blinged & pimped out, I think it ruins them - you know, 22" wire rims, etc... to each their own I guess.

did they ever offer the GN's in anything but black?

I agree 100%. This one has a cam and alcohol injection with bigger injectors and a TA-49 turbo. Should run low 11's without any problem. He has a ton of other stuff done but it's not mine so i'm not sure about all the add on's. As far as colors go i would paint just about any color they asked for even pink...if the price was right...lol. But most of the GN's are black. I wish i could work on it more but I'm limited to only a few days a week at best, and I'm only able to work on it for 3 to 4 hours at a time. I just work like a mad man when i get a chance to work on it. We just had another baby girl here last month and it has cut into my garage time until things settle down some. That make 4 girls so far. Must be all the paint fumes keeping me from having a boy..lol. I'm very excited to use the SPI clear when it comes time for the first time.
And yes they offered it in about a 1/2 dozen different colors from the 84 to the 87 GN's and T-Types.

Looks like a clean car,, reminds me I was suppose to do some paint work on one of those this summer.

Body work is complete and 2K primer is applied. Time to install the driver door and block the car out, then I'm ready for the base.:DDSC_2074.jpg
