'78 Trans Am Plastic

What would be the proper procedure for refinishing the plastic parts on a '78 Trans Am? Mainly concerned with the front and rear bumper cover, spoilers, and wheel flares. Are adhesion promotors or flex additives needed? Front bumper cover is very flexible.

Those are urethane and do not need adhesion promoter. If cleaned and textured properly epoxy primer will adhere better than anything. Will you be stripping them down to bare plastic? what condition is the paint that's on them now? cracks? Media blasting works good-this is what most of the bumper recyclers do. Don't use solvent based cleaners. Use waterborne wax and grease remover only.

There is cracks in the bumper currently, and one "tear" that needs to be fixed. I will be removing all of the old paint, probably by sanding. Is anything needed for flex, this thing is very flimsy!

No, like BOB said, nothing better then the epoxy, two coats and sand and paint.

I never use flex additive. Say that on transamcountry.com and be prepared to be called an idiot

How about the plastic grill inserts? They are chipped up and need to be redone, I'm thinking single stage Flat Black. Do you just clean them up well and spray, or scuff with a red pad?

Also, the rear spoiler will be painted as well. Anything special?

I think the grill is pp but its been a long time, either way on that I would use an adpro and a coat of epoxy, just to be safe.

Flex agent?? If it was needed, I would make! Why? Because my cost to make it is almost nothing and would be a big profit margin for us but I sleep good telling every one that calls, any flex will work in our paint and if it makes you feel better fine but it is a waste of money. Been saying the same broken record for 20 years.
