I see so many posts on Chevelle, el Camino forums and Facebook groups "will it hurt the value of my car if I do something not factory?"
Drives me a little crazy. Unless you have a numbers matching very special and rare model, do your thing. It's your car.
If you are worried about resale, just do it tastefully and do it well.
And watch the auctions for where the money is.
The money is NOT in a base model car with a powerglide, quadrajet and hubcaps.

Psychologically, setting a reserve may be counterproductive because it sets a preconception of value. I think an undisclosed reserve is okay, though I don't know how they do that at the BJ action.

I attended a Barrett Jackson auction once. They were selling Hot Dogs for only $8 back then.

The lower dollar cars were parked in separate buildings and under tents. The high dollar cars were inside the showroom, had special roped off areas and lots of lights to make them sparkle.

During the auction there were guys up on a platform with phones to their ears, ready to bid for the big money customers. They had guys in the crowd watching those on the phones, so a raised eyebrow would generate a bid from the floor.

It also seemed that there were plants in the crowd whose job was to elevate the bidding.

All of it was way out of my league, but fun to watch.

No reserve, let the market value the car. Eliminates all haggling, tire kicking, "I gotta ask my wife...", etc.
The 67 coupe at Mecum was an outlier to the upside. My friend saw a lot of nice cars there that sold low in his opinion. Two other 66's at BJ this year, then 5-6 SWC. Its mostly out of my control, but will be there to enjoy the experience. See some friends and make new ones.

Funny you say that. A local Corvette Restoration company in town is next door to a place I work at frequently.
One day I was window shopping and saw a beautiful 58 that I just had to go inside to see up close. I was asking the counter lady about if it was going to Mechem. She said we only deal with Barrett Jackson, I asked why and her rant about Mechem was damn near word for word your description of BJ.
